I'm shocked that 10.11.1 actually fixed something here! iZotype RX 2.0 works again (I guess that "audio plugin fix" must have done the trick). Yay for Apple for actually fixing something I reported for once (well it might have not been just me). I wonder if VMWare 5.x works now (doubt it), but I already updated that to 8.0 for $79. Other than no RAID control in disk utility (already set up here anyway; I'll have to use Mavericks backup or CLI to disable it if/when I move to a SSD setup in the near future), everything is working here now. I can even update my Macbook Pro now that iZotype is working again and see how El Capitan behaves on a Macbook Pro from 2008. I'm guessing with an SSD in there instead of my 7200 RPM drive, it will do fine.

I have noticed some 3D games are already faster in El Capitan (Borderlands 2 now runs smooth at native resolution 1680x1050 with high settings on the Intel 4000HD; it was running at a lower resolution with high settings in Mavericks because native was too choppy before). I wish Aspyr would update it to Metal API; I'd be curious to see how well it could run, then (i.e. even higher settings?)

Really, if they would just put the stoplight buttons back to "gems" I'd really have few things to complain about, overall. It's the only part of the "flat" interface I truly despise (dark mode kind of makes up for the rest of it as dark mode looks MUCH better than Mavericks OPAQUE bright look color-set.)

Anyone having problems with TextWrangler? I was using it before, did a clean install of 10.11 yesterday, noticed TW released a v5 for El Cap, installed that one, no go...

I was disappointed not to be able to find AirPlay icon, I noted on searching, that under System References > Display where AirPlay Display is shown, the only Option is "Off", no "On". Funny how they go to great lengths to tell you what you get by up-grading, but not what you will lose - guess too many might not up-grade!

My Airplay is working fine on my Mac Mini now running 10.11.1 (AppleTV Gen2 available on list). In fact, the menu icon now shows my other connected monitor with the ability to switch to mirror or separate display from the same drop-down. I can send either monitor's display to the AppleTV or I can use the AppleTV as a 3rd monitor output.

Back in the old days I was never surprised when some software crashed on Windows 3.1 or even in Windows 95 (and Windows crashed or freezed as well).
I was used to back up in a floppy drive every few minutes to avoid disasters.
Now I seem to have travelled back in the time machine of Jules Verne to those days.

Does anybody with a good memory remember having suffered so many bugs when...Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite came new and people upgraded their different Macs?

I have great respect for Apple and am a great fan of their products but do not understand why even my expensive MP late 2013 should not be upgraded to El Capitan and must remain with Yosemite.
o_O
Well, not entirely true.
It can be upgraded...provided I am ready to :
1) shut down after use with the electrical supply ON/OFF button (or simply by pulling the electrical cable, my choice) since in most cases the OS does not accept my shut-down command of the Apple menu bar...
2) give up countless applications which worked up to Yosemite with zero problems, and be ready to discover others failing as well as soon as I try them...
3) get used to the nice new colourful beach-ball turning around and around and around...
4) have enough money to buy new versions of many applications because existing ones kindly inform me that they are not compatible with El Capitan and the developers want (of course) to make fresh money, why shouldn't they...
5) discover and fully enjoy the exquisite mixture of localized (in my case German) and English messages and terms now used for describing both the hardware and the System, no doubt to encourage foreigners to reach a higher proficiency in English...
(Happily the Apple developers are not Chinese or Zulus, I am very grateful for that).:)
5) install the just appeared fresh update # 10.11.xx with great, great hopes, which prove to be illusions, and wait with great devotion for the next update, since THAT ONE will solve every present problem, of course...
6) not have the courage to contact the Apple support employees since that option still gives me hope and I do not want to bury that hope just a short time after the new OS was made public...

Therefore I must admit that Apple fully respects my freedom of decision.
It is just a problem of mine if I jump to El Capitan or don't.
Perfectly fair, don't you think so? ;)

The airplay logo is there for me in the menu bar, and it does work if I use the airplay button on the youtube player to airplay just the video, but trying the airplay the display does not work at all!

I just tested it here in all modes and with my Gen2 AppleTV, it could mirror either of my monitors or act as a 3rd display. It worked fine in all modes. I'm not sure what the problem is for you. I'm using a Late 2012 Mac Mini Server with Intel 4000HD.

As always, different people will have different problems with different OSes. When Leopard came out it rendered my LAN inoperative until the ".1" release three weeks later. Lion was second place for introducing problems. So for me those were the worst. As for El Capitan, it's the first new OS for which all my old software works, including Parallels 10 and even 9. Anything that wasn't working in the betas was either fixed by Apple or the app vendor. I don't see any bugs beyond what were in Yosemite and not fixed. I'd rate it the best version since Snow Leopard.

i'm in agreement; 10.6.8 was an exceptional moment in OS X history, and 10.11.1 is already a great place to be...

I have used all of them and while Lion had the most bugs I am not impressed with Yosemite either because it has almost as many bugs.

While El Capitan does fix large part of Yosemite bugs it creates new ones, worst bug I have found is Time Machine which makes backups but can't restore files. It crashes every time I try to restore! Fortunately I installed it in an external drive for testing purposes because of prior bad experiences with Yosemite and if I had installed it on my Minis internal drive I would be furious!

I have to wonder how Apple didn't find this kind of major bug in testing??? Unless Apple improves its quality greatly I plan to stay on Mavericks into foreseeable future...

important to remember that we're all having different experiences (unless, of course, a problem is truly global), based on our hardware, software...and perhaps, random gremlins). for me, the best moments in OS X history are 10.2 (because it was my first X), 10.6.8 (a great moment for speed and stability), and now 10.11.1...which is, so far, so good...

Thank you for your info.
I am glad for you...but still do not understand why my MP 6.1 is not as "good" as your Mac regarding El Capitan results.
