Go to folder "~/Library/Caches" and delete the JN4.OS-X-Hackers and in folder "~/Library/Preferences/" delete Johnson Network 4.2.OS-X-Hackers.plist
If you're still experiencing issues. Reinstall OS X Extractor and let us know
Nothing, same result. Can i install Yosemite through sfott and try directly from there?

This Beta is for Developers to test and rewrite scripts as needed. It will not successfully patch OS X on unsupported Macs yet.

This update includes:
• Automated Patches for Yosemite, Mavericks, and Mountain Lion
• OpenGL for Mountain Lion

I don't quite understand this entire procedure. I want to try putting Yosemite on a 2006-era iMac but there are so many different references to various parts in this thread that I'm not sure I understand the relationship between OS X Extractor as mentioned in post #468, the OS X Patcher in #469, and the "Downloads/Files for Patching" in post #1. My best guess is this:

  1. Use the SFOTT app script mentioned in #1 and use plus your Yosemite download top create a bootable USB stick that will install Yosemite. This eliminates the need to do anything else mentioned in post #1, correct?
  2. Reboot the Mac and install from the USB stick.
  3. After Yosemite installs, use "OS X Extractor v1.2" in some way to add needed files/patches to the new install (???)
  4. Then run the OS X Patcher script in #469 to do further necessary patches (???)

Part of my confusion is based on the fact that in #1 the text at the bottom says "The Steps above can also be done by Oemden's SFOTT script", which I take to mean that if you download and run his script, following the instructions there, you don't have to do ANY of the other steps in post #1. BUT, and this is where it gets confusing for me, it appears that the last update on that script was posted on November 18 of last year, whereas the most recent version of OS X Extractor Beta 6 and the OS X Patcher Beta 1 script were both posted a few days ago, on March 25. My sense is that if I am to have any hope of getting usable graphics on an older iMac I need the latest and greatest of the above two items. But I just don't get the relationship between the three items (the SFOTT script, OS X Extractor Beta 6, and the OS X Patcher Beta 1) and I also can't be certain whether those are the only things I would need (for example, in post #1 after the mention of Oemden's SFOTT script there is a link to something called MacPostFactor but when you go to that page it says there is no version for Yosemite).

For someone who has never done anything like this it's really confusing, and what I really want to know is what is the easiest path to saving my old 2006-era iMac from the scrap heap while still having the best graphics possible with the original graphics system in that unit. I can follow step by step instructions but when there's a piece here and a piece there and no clear path to follow, I get lost very quickly! Any help would be much appreciated.

You can modify Yosemite install manually following the guide on #1, or can do it through sfott. Sfott creates the patch with efi 32bit automatically

With yosemite extractor, you can apply some needed patches to make yosemite smooth and usable, but you can't get full graphic acceleration, cause open gl isn't supported. Sorry for my bad english:p

That part I understand. But as I mentioned, it appears SFOTT was last updated in November, and the latest graphics fixes are in OS X Extractor v1.2 Beta 6. What I'm trying to figure out is after I do the procedure using SFOTT and install the patched version of Yosemite from the USB stick, do I then install the OS X Extractor v1.2 Beta 6 and the OS X Patcher Beta 1 to get the latest graphics improvements?

Everyone says that the graphics cards are the real hangup in upgrading an older iMac. I understand that the OpenGL won't work but if it can browse web pages and such without being painfully slow, that will be sufficient. I understand that I won't be able to do anything graphics intensive, but if it works well enough for normal web surfing I'll be happy.

After sfott, you only have to install OS X extractor, to get refreshed graphic kext. Autopatcher is only for developers, for now

boot stuck halfway

Hello pals, I've been using and enjoying Yosemite for some time... suddenly and for some unknown reason it gets stuck at half-booting. I've checked the system log and get this message: /System/Library/Extensions/IOBluetoothFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOBluetoothHostControllerUARTTransport.kext has no Info.plist file.

any idea on how to fix this issue?

hot keys on Shades

It's not like it's gonna activate the hot keys natively... it is an external solution, where you can actually choose the keys you want to darken/brighten the screen. Nonetheless, if you want to keep the default keys (F1) and (F2) you gotta configure the pref pane on the system preferences, depending on your keyboard you can use another key stroke to make it work (let's say the function key), thus avoiding to believe that it's a native OS X setting!

Also be sure to install it and restart your system since it's a pref pane it could not work before that, good luck!

i already installed it, but hot keys won't work. Ah, there is any way to make quick time working?

Yes, and after installed kext, you have to set kext in dev mode

Okay, thank you for clarifying that. I very much appreciate your help!

I do have one other question, if you can answer it for me. The real point of this project was to repurpose this 2006 iMac so my 6 year old granddaughter can use it. I just found out from her dad that one of her favorite things to do is watch videos in a web browser from sites like Nick Jr. and other sites that have kid-friendly videos. If we do this project and use OS X Extractor v1.2 Beta 6, do you think that will allow smooth playback of that type of video, given that open gl isn't supported? Or do you think that the video will likely be choppy or have artifacts, or simply refuse to play?

I'm just trying to get a handle on how much the lack of open gl will negatively impact the system after OS X Extractor v1.2 Beta 6 is installed.

I think you will have to boot from another partition or drive, access the Yosemite drive, and manually replace the Bluetooth kext.

I watched some videos on youtube, and it's seem having no lags.

Is the archive of OS X Hackers corrupted? I can't unzip it correctly on any machine. When I "fix" the archive I can get it to extract and run, but it always crashes saying "can't find required media".
Is this a known issue? The issue occurs bot with the Beta 6 and the one currently up on the site (v2?).
I've installed Yosemite fine and am looking for the patches.
Thanks!

EDIT: Never mind, redownloaded a few times and got a working one.

Yosemite for macbook air 1,1 (early 2008)

Hi all,
I have a macBook air 1,1 early 2008; I'm trying to install yuosemite using the procedure in post #1
the SFOTT Sw doesn't work for my MacBook Air.
I have some problmes with this step:

"4e: finish installation
(If the Mac does not reboot to the Yosemite desktop boot to the install-drive again and perform the following.
Boot back into the Yosemite Install Partition
open the terminal at the top menu bar or boot into single user mode (Hold Command -S immediately afterturning on)
enter: sudo rm /Volumes/[Main Drive Name]/System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist "

I enter in the installer (USB key) I found the terminal, I am in the bash, typing the sudo command but it says me: no such command present or something similar.

Is someone that can help me in finding where I am wrong in typing the sudo command?
Maybe I have to type sudo command not from the USB key?

thanks

Leave off sudo, just type the "rm..." command. It literally just worked for me. :)

Last minute Bug Fixes?

I am noticing a lot of people still downloading OS X Extractor 1.2 Beta 5 instead of Beta 6. Is there something wrong with Beta 6? Please send your error report here so I can fix it for the final release.

The kexts are in the OS X Hackers app in post 1.

The OpenGL frameworks don't work, but I'm not sure if you know that already. I'm installing them by copying and replacing into the System/Library/Frameworks directory, am I doing it wrong?

I get more or less as far as the login screen, but I see a black screen that cycles between having a working mouse pointer and a white cursor bar top left.

The Animation Disabler also wouldn't complete on its own, it said it couldn't write even though I'd run it in an elevated terminal. I was however able to pull out each line and run it successfully.

Not sure how valuable you'd find my feedback since I'm on a Hackintosh (X3100).
Thanks for the awesome work so far anyhow!
