When using the open/save function (opening a window) I resize it to reflect my needs.
A sidebar with sufficient width to read my folder names and a larger window at all to be able to navigate through folders.

In previous versions of all OSX-versions if I recall it correctly, including Big Sur 11.0 this resized size became the new standard.

With the latest install of Big Sur (11.1) the open/save window reverts to a standard size.
So now I have to resize the window every time I open/save files.

This started with the upgrade to 11.1. I thought I was doing something wrong. I looked at the finder view options but I didn't see anything related to window size. Finder screens since the upgrade are often grayed out until I click on one of the files (icon view). Also annoying. I can't find a reason this would be used as a feature.

I am having the exact same issue. It is beyond annoying.

Mine is even worse than this, and only displays 3 items to your 5 in the window, and cuts off more in my sidebar. For some reason Photoshop is fine though, but Indesign and Illustrator windows are both broken. So frustrating.

I just switched back to macOS after a 3 month leave for Windows and discovered this issue right away. This is probably one of the most annoying bugs I've ever experienced on a Mac and is almost making me regret switching back. Reported through Apple feedback I hope a lot of people do the same.

Related issue with Finder: previously we could setup Finder the way we wanted and it would retain location/size/etc. - With BS 11.1, Finder always revert to default window location and settings...

Delete all .DS_Store files and reset Finder preferences.

Same here in all the Affinity apps. Annoying as can be. I do a lot of file openings, saving, exporting, importing and saving daily. Has anyone tried the above fix? Does it work? Thanx.

Thanks for the hint, but when hyper-pro users post cryptic "fixes" for us mere power users, it makes us crazy. More details please. This fixes the problem? Causes open/save windows to remain user resized? Thanks.

- Open Terminal
- Type below commands:

Code:
cd ~
find . -name ".DS_Store" -delete

This will delete all .DS_Store files that manages your individual window settings. Then, execute:

Code:
rm Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

This will reset your Finder preferences.

I can't speak regarding the resize problems, but when I upgraded from Mojave to Catalina, my Finder window positions and sizes were messed up, and toolbars were appearing out of nowhere; this fixed it. Deleting prefs and .DS_Store files usually fixes these kinds of quirks.

Windows never was this bad…

This is the most basic functionality of an OS, handling files, open and save, and so on, and Apple blows it completely.

They hired tons of Windows guys, completely ruining a great OS in their quest for monetization.

Try this: copy a large files or many files to a folder, and during the copying add a tag to the folder. Finder can't cope with it. The most basic stuff again. The stuff that must work flawlessly at any moment. And Apple blows it.

The guys programming Macs never use it for real. They are not passionate about it, as Jobs would require.
