When using the open/save function (opening a window) I resize it to reflect my needs.
A sidebar with sufficient width to read my folder names and a larger window at all to be able to navigate through folders.

In previous versions of all OSX-versions if I recall it correctly, including Big Sur 11.0 this resized size became the new standard.

With the latest install of Big Sur (11.1) the open/save window reverts to a standard size.
So now I have to resize the window every time I open/save files.

Same bug here. It's sooooooo boring and time consuming!

AAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! This is the first thing in my over 30 years of solely using apple products that has EVER made me feel like I wasn't using a Mac. Total ignorance. Frustrating. And I just bought a top of the line MacPro with all the bells and whistles to have do deal with such a foul display of lack of testing and oversight. Stops my focus. Slows my production. Gets confusing. Whatever dumb*** that was in charge of this needs to be fired and sent back to college.

- Open Terminal
- Type below commands:

Code:
cd ~
find . -name ".DS_Store" -delete

This will delete all .DS_Store files that manages your individual window settings. Then, execute:

Code:
rm Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

This will reset your Finder preferences.

I can't speak regarding the resize problems, but when I upgraded from Mojave to Catalina, my Finder window positions and sizes were messed up, and toolbars were appearing out of nowhere; this fixed it. Deleting prefs and .DS_Store files usually fixes these kinds of quirks.
I don't seem to be able to run this command via Terminal. What is
Code:
 ?
Not working. zsh: no matches found

The .DS_Store files contain the view preferences for the Finder windows that show the contents of your drives and folders. They have no effect on the size of the Open/Save dialog panels in applications, and so deleting the .DS_Store files will not help with this problem.

The problem with the Open/Save panels is due to a bug in 11.1. I'm not aware of any workaround at the moment.

I've not had any issues apart from with Finder windows. With these, when I double click on the title bar to zoom, the window expands vertically to fill the screen but shrinks horizontally to a bit less than half the screen width. Very frustrating. Other windows zoom to fit the screen, as expected.
I have tried deleting the .DS_Store files and the plist but it has made no difference.

i’m super frustrated but i’m also glad i’m not the only one that’s having this issue because I felt like I was going crazy. I just got off the phone with Apple Support, a senior advisor just let me know they’re getting reports of the same issue from other users and they’re tracking it so it can be fixed. If you have this same issue, keep calling/chatting with Apple Support to report the issue so they can see how wide-spread the issue is and fix it asap!

This is the worst screw up I've seen in an OS release since the early Yosemite ones with the stuttering animations

I just noticed the title of this thread and for some reason it just bugs me. Big Sur isn't 11.1; it's 11.0 (current version: 11.0.1).

No, the title is correct. The latest version of Big Sur is 11.1 (Build 20C69). It was released in mid December. This bug was introduced with the 11.1 update (it is not present in the previous 11.0.1)

I sit corrected. Sadly, since the departure of Jobs consistency hasn't been Apple's forte.

THIS IS HORRIBLE....It is slowing me down SO MUCH. Have to pull at the dialog box from TWO directions each time. Seriously affecting my work flow and production time. FIX THIS APPLE!!! (OS 11.1)
I'm in the same boat... it's driving me nuts!!!!

How hard is it to understand that Apple seams to have changed the numbering scheme for macOS releases? Big Sur 11.2 is in it's beta phase right now. It follows the iOS logic.

Wow. First Mac OS update in over 30 years that has had me cursing at how frustating it is. Upgrading the Mac OS used to involve discovery of lots of subtle new tricks and improvements. Open and Save are such basic functions to screw up. This feels like using Windows.

I just experienced that when you adjust the save dialogue once, when you come back, that not doing anything other then just move your mouse over the dialogue, after like a second or so, the dialogue will adjust its size. So don't immediately try resizing... Still a bug though, but much better to handle this way.
