I can't believe this STILL isn't fixed. Drives me crazy every day
I feel your pain, it's easily the most annoying bug I've ever had to deal with. It actually makes me wonder if people at Apple actually use their own software because how is this not driving them mad?

I wonder what kind of unit tests write down there at Apple. Or do they even write at all. From what I've read here and there, teams are at such extreme pressure to ship features, that no wonder they cannot catch regressions.

Software quirks are acceptable to some level, but seeing how many hardware failures/regressions (display errors, battery rekts, dongles bricking computers) have popped up with Big Sur release, it's really frightening.

Sidebar issue seems to be fixed but other issue popped-up.
See:
Omg. That’s crazy. Still… maybe not as bad as the originally tiny window bug and subsequent small sidebar bug.

Sorry for asking here but I could not find any recent thread about it: what about the font size of the open/save dialog boxes? I set the font in Finder to 14 for all the folders but the dialog boxes are still at the default 12 which is too small for my eyes. Can anyone help me please?

At beta 4 it seems good
Ok I've been SOOOO annoyed by this for 4 months now and I know 11.3 is just around the corner but I went to open a file this morning with the dialog and ARGHHH! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! For the first time ever in 27 years of being a Mac User I just signed up for public beta testing so I can install beta 4. I can't take one more day of this!

Thanks for letting is know it's fixed (finally) in beta 4.

Yes I have a backup.

There is no way to adjust the font size in Open/Save dialog boxes, unfortunately. The only thing you can do is reduce the resolution of your display in System Preferences so everything appears larger on screen.

Ok guys, after nearly one week I can confidently say that Beta 7 fixed the problem for me.
No more screwed dialog boxes. Dimensions of the box and width of the icons bar is kept. Window position seams also to be consistent...

Now I'm kinda afraid to install Beta 8...

Thank God!!! Now I just have to wait for it to be out of Beta and released to the general public.

Amateurs. Seriously. 2021 and my windows don't remember size and position on a "magical device"... ROFL
Windows 10 is so far ahead of this garbage it's not even funny.

OK, great. But how about the file name width? Will I be able to type long filenames and still see them in their full length?

I don't understand your issue... ?
I just tried and had no trouble using a very long name and move the cursor left and right...

The space for the filename used to be wider/longer. I used to be able to see very long filenames all at the same time.

Let's say I have a filename "Veryveryveryveryveryveryveryveryveryveryveryveryverylongfilename_001.jpg" and I want to change just the last digit to 2. I'll have to click the filename field, then scroll with the arrow buttons all the way to the last digit and then change it. This takes a lot of extra time. There are other problems also from not being able to see the whole filename (I might not even know if that last digit needs editing or not since I cannot see it). My workflow suffers from this.

Before, I used to be able to just place my cursor just beside the last digit with my mouse and then quickly do the edit.

I too find this extremely annoying. I deal with files every day and having to scroll all the way to the end to edit or adjust a small part of the file name is a pain. I've resorted to just double clicking the file name, wiping it clean and typing out the full file name. Not ideal but I type really fast :)

I miss this very much too! Windows 10 is better at this too!
