Welcome to my world....

CC Welcome

So, as I mentioned to Kat and her blue door image, for me, this is a bit too busy of a background. This really falls more into framing in my opinion, rather than negative space. However, the one below, with the background more blurred out is much better! I'm glad you kept trying. 🙂

CC Welcome

This one I like the black background, but as with Katbel's flower vase and blue door image, I wish it the statue was all intact and not missing his shoulder on the right....it's hard to know what is outside the frame, though, so it might have been your only option. But if you had been able to take a step back and capture the whole buddha, I think the image would be more successful.

I do really like the contrast in this though. 🙂

kat, I think these work much better than your first day's! Great job. I don't really have much CC for these, other than to maybe start thinking about different crops. The one thing I did love about your blue door photo is that the subject wasn't centered. In these more recent ones, they are mostly centered, but some not even quite, so they look a little off. I took one and cropped to the rule of thirds for you to give you an alternative.

Thanks , it looks much better!
To understand better the rule of thirds, is it enough that the most important part of the subject touches one of the lines or one of the 4 crossing points?
I tried to recenter one of the roses, where the vase is not that important but the rose bud is .

Couldn't attach the photo below my text so I'm adding it below the message
Does it make more sense? Am I missing something else?

Tanagra (not really)
This is very successful! I love the creamy background and your focus is spot on and the crop is good. I think this is a sage plant? I'm glad you are getting on well with your Fuji. 🙂
Yeah, so far so good. Just have 2 lenses for it right now, but trying to make my case for a couple more, the 10-24 and the 35mm f2. The Fuji primes are really good, and there’s the 70-300 and 100-400, so 2 more is not the end of the line by any means! 😁

Thank you! I got some advice from @mollyc about my earlier submissions for this week, and I am hoping I got the assignment right with the latest shot.
i’d love to see more negative space. negative = absence of…. there is more ben than emptiness imo. i’d try to have your subject no more than a third of the frame.

(ps you can cheat and extend the canvas 😉)

I love this challenge, even if – like the self-portrait challenge – I'm not finding it easy.

This the best effort so far, even though the "negative" space has more figure than the "positive" cityscape.

It's perhaps an interesting point: the more empty space in terms of physicality is actually more positive in terms of visual weight; while by contrast the physically "full" building skyline is (because it's blocked up) visually more empty (and would be even more if I were to 'shop out the pins of window lights and streetlights.)
