You make fun about the quality of my work, but at least I know how enterprises works :D..
Educational comment about glass houses.
Seems like you are belittling me for lack of enterprise knowledge. I asked the question of why you were forced to use MS Office. Thin clients decided upon by management is an issue that many employees must contend with. I seriously sympathize and understand. Fortunately I'm in a small company surrounded by only about 30,000 devices. We have decided on a different ( currently considered more modern, yet to be determined if better ) solution.

Documents and I turn in are complete and sent using pdf. Shared documents are combined using a version control solution to better prevent mistakes.

I'm just in a different part of the food(work) chain and do not fully understand your needs via simple forum comment. I also apologize if I inadvertently made fun about the quality of your work. That is certainly not my intention or my nature.

I can only congratulate your management for going with a modern (and certainly better) solution. If only the majority of companies was not so slow to accept change!

Welcome to MacRumors. What an epic first post! You'll do well here once you break out of your shell.

But, yeah, not a fan of Pages either.

Apple hardware is for the Gods (with some spectacular fails like the keyboard). As for software - you can just see guys in Cupertino furiously programming “fixes” for problems not there. So they can justify thier jobs I guess.

a friend who knows a couple guys up there says all of them use droids and have pcs at home. Might explain why they suck at programming apple apps

We all shape our opinions based on our experiences. For me, Apple hardware is "ok"... solid but nothing to get excited about. As for software, my opinion of their applications is different than their operating systems.... I appreciate the design ethos of their software (mostly of the past, not so much recently), but not a fan of the hodge-podge, duct-tape and bubblegum approach to their operating systems.

I have a friend who knows a guy who's best friends with the wife of someone who....

Yeah, see how that goes?

I'm going to rate this claim of yours as a 11 on the BS meter.

As someone who doesn’t own word, I quite like pages as it’s easier than latex lol. I’m split on duplicate vs save as, I hated duplicate first but I find it quite convenient now. Sadly it’s risky to get used to it since not all programs work this way, and you’re bound to close one of them by force of habit without saving some day.

I’d really like a “duplicate and revert original to as opened” button, it would offer best of both worlds.

Why can't Apple just make a normal program with normal functions?

Pages is a diabolical and unproductive dogs breakfast. It's a total mess and failure. It's ridiculously painful to use.

My current annoyance is that almost every program known to man has a "Save As" function. Oh, not at Apple, we're so cool and different and special. We have the Duplicate function, the most annoying convoluted junk UI ever where you have to then navigate several drop down menus and then select a file, and then move the file. But if you do this AFTER you've used your previous document as a template and close it down before you realise, you lose all your work on that previous document entirely!

I just lost a days worth of work because of this utter crap and I can't get it back. I just deleted it and purchased Word.

Go and learn some remedial software design for F sake!

Dear DeeEss
I read your post 2 times. No offense but it is one of the worst opinion I ever read.
Sounds to me like a 10 years old child saying « I don’t know how to refill my glass of milk….. Damn wrong !!! Aaaaaargh ! My glass is crap !!! «
I have a good suggestion to you. Leave Apple ecosystem and go to Windoze or Hemorroid softwares and apps.
Also, your comment reminds me two things :

1- First : Just weeks ago (before the Covid shutdown) some collegial colleagues of mine discovered Apple Pages and Keynote. During a teachers reunion they said unanimously how GREAT and SIMPLE these softwares are !!!! Since then, they don’t use Word and Power Point anymore.

2- Second : In my modest Apple experience user (since 1989) most problems can be called « problem 18 » . Meaning that most problems are located about 18 inches from the screen. Or, if you prefer, between the screen computer and the chair you are seated.

Cheers and stay health.

Accuses someone of being a child.

Calls Windows and Android childish names.

Well, okay.

I have loved Pages and all of the Apple programs. I use MS Office, too but still prefer Pages. Nothing wrong with it and it can save into the various file types as needed. It's free so no one should complain.

Press Alt on the File menu and you'll have an option for Save As. :)
I was very impressed by the Non-modal and intuitively correct nature of that little npd to Computer owners.
I liked Apple's old pre-OSX user interface guidelines. Too bad they defenestrated the concept wjen they stared cooking with OSX/iOS.
Since Apple stopped making app docs. The user I'd left to find these tricks 9n their own. That's a Serious design flaw.

So, the manual is where?
I'm seeing "handy tips" and "what's new" at that website; hardly a proper manual like they wrote thru the 80's and 90's.

Scroll down a bit.
'Manuals' for every OS and Cloud.

Click on "Table of Contents (+)" at the top.
Click on "Intro to <OS of choice>"
Start at "Pages Basics"

Extremely well organized and thought out presentation as the documentation is commonly structured across four platforms. Much easier to keep up to date than 80s / 90s manuals.

If you really must have a manual iBooks has them all. Available at the same link as above, bottom of page:
"Download the user guides from Apple Books >"

You have some of the best answers I've seen on this site, and a lot more patience than me.

While I agree that duplicating a document is a stupid alternative for save as, I think Pages is awesome, free and one of the best looking productivity tool.

How is this related to Pages?
TextEdit, Preview etc. All of them have duplicate instead of Save As, and holding the option key reverses it to Save As.
If someone is confused with this, they need to get used to macOS instead of thinking that everything works as Windows does.

Save as... used to be a default command, not necessarily hidden behind the Option key combination.
Note: this Option key was implemented only after numereous complaints from loyal users.

Furthermore, Apple's apps are now auto-saving as well.

While Apple may be trying to dumb down their software for some users, they have taken away formerly existing functionalities and workflows from long time users. As a Mac user since 1985, I'm counting myself to the latter, and I dislike the present situation. Maybe because I'm still capable of making my own decisions - TYVM Apple.

FWIW I'm perfectly OK with "getting used" to progress, to regression not so much :p

Very impressed with Pages, especially now that they have rectified previous problems with text boxes for example.

My problem is with "find and replace". It does not work unless the exact term is typed with caps/lowercase. This is only a problem with Pages... I wonder why.
