Here's a nice article regarding password managers and I was surprised that most of them have gone on to the subscription model: Best Password Managers 2017

I found this chart to be very handy, to give a snapshot of the costs, and tbh, I was surprised to see nearly all of them are subscription based it seems.

Great chart. I am currently using the 1pass subscription service along with Apple's Keychain. I like Apple Keychain but it's not as robust as other offerings. And I can't use it on a Windows PC.

Here's another guide with nice graphics that could be of assistance for another opinion and cross-referencing:

I always see 1Password listed with an annual fee, but I purchased it once and don't pay annually. Was I grandfathered in or something of that nature?

No. They still offer the perpetual license version, they just "hide" it on their website so most people don't even know you can just buy a copy outright. There are differences between it and the subscription version (which obviously has more features).

Thanks for the link. It looks like they are changing this or make an opt out. I will follow this and then decide wheter or not I will continue using their product.

Keep a close eye on it. I just have a sneaking suspicion they will alter the method of tracking but may not remove it altogether. That's the thing with free or crazy cheap software, the developer has to make money somehow.

When they announce it has changed you will need something like Little Snitch to monitor your outgoing connections to see what alterations have been made.

That makes the chart in Post #1 seem deceptive then.

What's deceptive is 1Password saying they offer it, but there does not seem any indication or ability to get there from their site. They' so effectively buried it, that for all intents and purposes they're not providing any sort of perpetual license. They're not alone with that, as Adobe with Lightroom does the same thing.

Can you show me where?

But you are correct they keep it well hidden.
Yeah, its not a move I particularly like and while the stand alone app is nice, they've already said its not a priority or a focus, so I'll probably move on to a developer who does consider it a priority

Someone mentioned enpass as an alternative, I have no idea about them, but I'll be researching that later.

I'm a mSecure person myself. I only n a place to store, it probably doesn't have as many features as the others
