After missing true tethering between my mobile device and laptop when I am on the road with no free WIFI available, PdaNet has finally been released on Cydia with for my jailbroken iPhone. I am trult pumped beacause now I can easily access the internet and use my Outlook on my laptop which is wirelessly tethered to my iPhone HORRAY!!!!

this isn't working for me. it says "Currently your iPhone is set to use an existing WiFi connection for Internet access. In order to use PdaNet, please change your iPhone's WiFi settings to connect to your computer through a peer-to-peer (ad-hoc) connection, then launch PdaNet again."

Works freaking great! I was in dire need of this last night, and then found it this morning. I was out far in the woods, had great signal, but no wi-fi hotspots anywhere even remotely close, and had to do something on the computer. I wish I would have found it last night.

try connecting the laptop to the iphone last.

I prefer the other solution on Cydia. - iphone modem

Except iphonemodem isn't TRUE tethering. It works through a proxy server. You'll notice that when using iPhoneModem, at least on a Windows PC, you won't be able to access all websites through firefox or run any program that doesn't work through a proxy, unlike this. I've used iPhoneModem, i've used NetShare...and PdaNet beats them both, as it is not limited to a socks proxy port so it is exactly as if your iPhone was a wireless router that your laptop is connected to (which is technically what PdaNet does).

? I didn't connect it yet. lmao. What do I do once I install it? connect via USB? how do I turn Ad-Hoc on or whatever?

After installation of PdaNet on your iphone follow these steps

Step 1 - Set-up an adhoc wireless network your laptop. Depending on what OS (XP/Vista or some Apple OS) you are using each is different.

Step 2 - From your laptop ask to connect to your new adhoc network.

Step 3 - On your iphone go to settings WiFi and conect to the same adhoc network.

Step 4 - Start-up PDA-Net application on the iPhone and turn on the WiFi Router button on the bottom of the screen.

Step 5 - Enjoy real tethering

If it still won't work, from the PC disconnect and reconnect to the adhoc network.

This is DEFINITELY more along the lines of what I was talking about here:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/569304/

Now I just wish the iPhone would initiate the adhoc network. At least now I don't have to change settings and stuff, just start adhoc network and fireup pdanet. I can use any program now. :) Not just ones that can be set to use the global proxy.

Hmmm, I wasn't going to download this.. but now from everyones comment I think I may just quickly try it :D

Anything to keep me going on the laptop when I'm on the move :)

Wow, this stuff is hard as heck to do...: ( I thought it would be like you enter the IP address of the iPhone into the computer, and you're done..lmao

Why can't they just make it like WMWiFi Router for Windows Mobile? It turns the phone into a WiFi modem and your laptop just automatically connects to it.

Haha! This is amazing! No more messing about with stupid proxies etc!

(I'm writing this using my iPhone's internet..)

I can actually browse USING FIREFOX, I can use uTorrent, MSN, Google Desktop and pretty much all applications! It's just like it's connected to a normal Wifi.. and it actually gives instructions too on the iPhone screen! :

EDIT: It's funny that I'm downloading a Mac OS X ISO to my laptop using uTorrent using my iPhone Unlimited Data! :p

This is essentially what it does. A lot of people here are making it seem like more trouble than it actually is.

1. Download PdaNet through Cydia.

2. Create an ad-hoc network on Vista. click Start > Network (right hand side of the start bar) > click Network and Sharing tab on the top > click set up a connection or network.

3. Choose wireless ad-hoc for your new network. Leave encryption to "none", unless you want to set up a WEP, and give your network a simple name like "iPhone Tether".

4. Vista will notify you that it is finished and waiting for something to connect to your new network.

5. Fire up PdaNet. Make sure Wireless Router option at the bottom is set to "On." It'll check to make sure you have access to your cellular data network. Once it confirms this, exit out of PdaNet.

6. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Wifi > connect to your ad-hoc network, "iPhone Tether" (or whatever it is you named it).

7. Fire up PdaNet again, and it will automactically connect your computer to the internet. You're done. You can exit PdaNet and have it run in the background as long as you don't turn the wireless router option to OFF, enabling you to lock and turn off the screen, thus saving the battery (which you can also keep fully charged this way).

In reality, all of these steps take less than 2 minutes for anyone who knows what they're doing...and after you save these wireless settings on the computer, it's just a matter of seconds to get it working after that first time you set it up. If not, some people who don't know what they're doing are better off using mobile safari on their iPhone...;)

@jcde7ago - Cheers for giving those instructions. Saves alot of time and reading for those who just keep on asking how it works and how to do it.

In other news, it works brilliantly and definitly an app to download :D

Worked great. No static IP. No proxy. Just tether, turn on the pdanet router and voila. I used Pdanet on my Treo, prior to getting an iPhone and it never worked this well :)

Good bye Netshare.

Just curious, but has it be definitively decided that if you tether, you won't face extra charges (assuming you don't run a mobile torrent client or something excessive like that)?

This is the first tethering app. i have been able to get to work. This was one of my biggest complaints of the iphone. After jailbreaking my iphone has turned into the best cellphone i could ask for.

NICE! Works great

Question though, if I for some reason ever wanted to delete the Ad Hoc network I created, what do I have to do? Just uncheck "remember this network"?

This **** is wonderful. After spending the week trying netshare, iphone modem, the .de version of iphone modem (lol) and Bosspreffs socks/3 proxy commands (all of them working successfully except for the Pay version iphone modem) This is SO MUCH MORE convenient. No stupid static IP configuration that xp has to deal with. My phone is currently closed out of pdanet, screen off and its still running :D I dont see what they could've done to make this much easier...
