Just from looking at everything, if you have a Mac Mini, an iPad Pro 11, a MacBook Pro, and a new 12.9 iPad Pro you probably have too many devices. That being said, I WOULD NOT return the new iPad and rather just spend some time with it and see if it's something you want to keep.

Worst case, you sell it on Swappa 2 months from now and lose $200-$300 but you'll at least know if it fits your lifestyle and computing needs. 2 months for me seems to be the timeframe I need to decide whether or not I like a device.
Yep, you are right, i am going to get rid off the 11”. Used the 12.9“ all day and i am sold!

Put this together for a different thread, but here’s an idea of why the 12.9 is ‘right for me’ (wife’s 11” is right for her..)

Here's a pic giving an idea of it's 'normal home' below.
Depending on what I'm doing will change which windows go where, but usually sidecar on the iPad is Things 3, or for sending Preview or other edits to the iPad. VMs generally stay on right half of 38" screen, but still playing with default locations across typical work days. I do use Magnet, but am still trying to sort how I can effectively 'pin' a default location and size for each app to open in. There's 'some' level of 'open in last place' but doesn't seem to span all apps, all the time, across reboots, etc.

If I'm heading into the kitchen, deck , etc. and have some iPad-able work to do, will bring the MKB with it. Heading to bedroom/night reading, it comes off. Still need to also sort once travel opens up, if I want to/should sleeve is as well, as I'm a little concerned about the few people talking about bending their IPPs. My travel bag has some pretty decent padding but it's a combo backpack with clothes, gear, laptop, etc. from 1 day to 1 week etc.

What a great question! I would absolutely love to be able to justify owning both an 11” and 12.9” iPad Pro. When the 2018 models came out I tried REALLY hard to decide which model to get in store and thinking constantly about it, but I couldn’t. I bought both, and with a lot of deliberating came to the decision that I wanted the 12.9” more. I love the 4:3 aspect ratio, additional screen real estate, larger keyboard, etc. I did also love the lighter weight of the 11”, but I was frustrated by the fact that I could not grasp it with one hand the way I could with my former 10.5” Pro due to the slightly increased width.

Anyway, I decided to keep the 12.9”, but I am toying with the idea of alternating upgrades. That way, when I next see an iPad Pro as a worthy upgrade I would buy the 11”, own both and then alternate the upgrades from there. But honestly I may just end up selling mine and buying a new 12.9”. I am completely in love with the MK for iPad, and it has completely replaced my laptop. My next macOS machine will be an iMac. For a more portable iPad I would love a ‘Mini Pro’ to compliment my 12.9” but I can’t do the current Mini. My eyes are so perceptive to the lack of ProMotion.

I need Cisco AnyConnect to access my office computer. While there is an iPad version, my job does not support that. Consequently, I will not be able to give up my iMac. If not for that, I could almost be iPad only.

Don’t even get me started on AnyConnect....but I feel your pain. :(
It’s on the back burner to try to get the MBP working without their native client, but yeah - I have a feeling doing it from iPadOS might just be way too much hoping, with or without a 1st party AnyConnect client. Thankfully, I don’t NEED the VPN for a majority of work, just sporadically.

Personally the extra 2" of the 12.9" is a big difference. But I would not have an 11" and a 12.9".
If you’re an artist/illustrator, photographer/hobbyist, or doing spreadsheets I’d mainly use a 12.9".
In my case I have a 12.9" and an iP Mini 5. My usage is similar on both. Lot’s of photo work on both using Affinity Photo.
For book reading I do more on the Mini 5. For magazines I use the 12.9" because you can see an entire page almost full size.

Jump Desktop is limited to the resolutions available in macOS. It's sometimes possible to work around this by adding custom resolutions with ScreenResX.
As I said in my post, I don't remote to macOS (but sometimes from macOS) but to windows from ipad and with windows custom resolutions depend on the GPU but in most cases you can create as many as you like. For instance for a 1080 display I set the custom resolution to 1440X1080 to make it 4:3.

Bit confused then when you were commenting on Jump Desktop not supporting the aspect ratio of the 11" iPad Pro ... I was under the impression that you can set any custom resolution when remoting to windows, so how does the aspect ratio matter?

It matters as on the 11in jump won't take all the space of the ipad, but roughly as much as the 10.5in ipad because it does not support the 11in aspect ratio itself on the ipad (so it will use a 4:3 in a 3:2 device, with some small black bars...). This is a different thing from the aspect ratio of the remote machine...

Couple days in with the 12.9”. Doing some casual Photo editing is a blast on it With lightroom!

thinking about going back to the 11” makes me chuckle now, it looks so tiny now, the larger diaplay really grows on you.

unfortunately, the Magic Keyboard did not appear in stock yesterday, probably may 7th they say. Keyboard is needed on this machine since typing on the screen is less comfortable on the 12.9”.

I put the iPad on sale yesterday, no luck yet selling it, lots of scammers (always on apple products in the Netherlands anyway)

I will keep this updated when the keyboard arrives!

I have a 9.7 iPP from 2017 and a 12.9 iPP from 2018 it's a really good combo, but I might just retire the 9.7 and get myself a refurbished 12.9 2018.

My current 12.9 is 256GB + Cellular so it would be my main one and the refurb I'm looking for is a 64GB WiFi. Apple seems through their refurb stock fast on these so I haven't had much luck yet.

I sometimes double my iPads as monitors from my 2018 i5 Mac mini with SideCar and Luna Display (though when using both together I would have to have the iPads wired to my Mac mini via USB-C to have ethernet running for less lag).

I've debated on getting a new MBP as I'm currently rocking a Mid 2012 13" Unibody i7/16GB RAM/256GB SSD +1TB 7200 RPM HDD, however my iPad pretty much replaced my need, and LunaDisplay lets me use MacOS on it as needed.

Don't need an iMac either as I'm currently using a 2013 Mac Pro 8-Core/32GB RAM/256SSD/D700 and TB Display for heavier photo and video editing, and for my actual job I use dual 28" Samsung UHD monitors with my gov issued dell laptop, so there goes most of my space.

Edit: They just loaded some refurbs on their site and I ordered one slated to arrive Friday. :)

You seem to have a lot of devices too! I also like to use sidecar and i bet it is better on the 12.9”, haven’t tried it out yet because i have no case to make it stand up on it’s own.

congratulations on your new purchase, hope it will be awesome!

Yes! Lots of devices! I was going to add them to my signature like several people do but it was too long. Lol

What kind of stand are you looking for?
Satechi has a nice stand but if you want something more “iMac” looking, I got one from a brand called Lamicall on Amazon for a good price a few months back.
This kinda my iPad space, with the keyboard still attached for whenever I need to grab it real quick when on the go.

Oh and thanks. 🙃
Happy to hear that you’re enjoying your 12.9”

Hey, I saw your desk setup. Love the color coordination (all dark gray/black). I see you use Magic mouse and I wanted to check with you something. First do you have the Magic Keyboard? I am wondering if you have tested the performance of using the magic mouse (Bluetooth) vs Magic Keyboard (Smart Connector).

I have tested my Bluetooth mouse (Logitech G603 that can be both wireless with USB dongle and Bluetooth) and I do find a noticeable latency when it is in Bluetooth mode. I am wondering if it is just this mouse or it is related to the protocol being used.

Also have some of you tested using wireless mouse with USB dongle through USB hub connected to the iPad?

My stand is going to be the magic keyboard.

ps: i am jealous of those homepods, they are not sold in The Netherlands for no reason.

Thanks! I’ve been slowly building up my arsenal of products for various projects and I keep looking for expansion.

I don’t have a Magic Keyboard, just the 2018 Smart Keyboard. I don’t need the trackpad on the go and I already had this setup before it was announced. 🙃 (Plus I really like the Satechi Backlit Aluminum Keyboard which can be paired with 4 devices.)

I would assume the trackpad on the Magic Keyboard would perform better as it is physically connected to the iPad itself via smart connector and is optimized for iPadOS.

I generally don’t use a mouse with my iPad unless I am using MacOS on the iPad, therefore I can’t really opine in regards to comparisons. (I am, however, waiting on the release of the Brydge trackpad for iOS/iPadOS to compare with Apple’s Magic Trackpad. I’m also hoping it’s more cost effective.)

thing is, when you try that trackpad for the first time, it opens up a lot of functionality which i now miss dearly on my 12.9”. Also that typing experience is something new,

hope it get’s in stock somewhere this week, unfortunately it is a holiday today and everything is closed.

can you connect both homepods in stereo to the iPad?

I can tell you for a fact there is something strange or off with non-Apple bluetooth pointing devices. With the Magic Mouse 2 ... similar polling rate to the magic keyboard trackpad and a touch more lag, but very slight. With a Logitech Bluetooth mouse ... the polling rate seemed to be 1/2 or 1/3 and much laggier. I don’t know how or why Apple managed to screw this up but it seems to be quite consumer hostile.

Ahh okay. I hope the Magic Keyboard is as magical as they say it is.😊

Thanks! I got them in November for 200USD each. Sucks that they don’t have them over there. They are amazing, especially paired together for stereo sound.

Yes. Once you set up the homepods as pairs in the Home App, whatever you send over will be played on both as a stereo. Movie, Shows, Music, etc.
I have a few HomeKit enabled devices and they work great with my homepods, contrary to what some people might believe.

I have an old Logitech ergonomic Keyboard and Mouse Combo. Perhaps I’ll try using an adapted for the dongle and try it out. I’ve yet to try any other mouse aside from my Magic Mouse, however I have a free Satechi mouse comin in Wednesday that I might give a go, though not a big fan of the mouse button look.

Thanks a lot for your input! I do not have Apple Magic mouse so I cannot tell you if the Logitech is a lot slower or not. I compared it to the way the same mouse behaves with Windows laptop and USB dongle.

Stupid question on my side as I am not familiar with this mouse. Did you test this mouse with any other device outside of the iPad? I am asking because it is not like the mouse is super super slow. It is just slower when it comes to scrolling. In terms of clicking on buttons etc it is OK. But scrolling - sucks big time for me and my expectations.

There is a bug with scroll wheel handling on third party mice that is reportedly fixed in the latest iPadOS beta.

Thanks so I guess I should check with the next official iPadOS update on improvements. Let's hope that there will be.

I genuinely don’t think 12.9” is needed for most use cases unless you’re an artist.
It’s very convenient for all of my use cases and I’m not an artist. I use it all the time. In my opinion all opinions that the 12.9” is large, heavy and so on are just hot air. It’s neither big, nor heavy. I actually think it’s small because it’s smaller than a standard A4 piece of paper. I guess a 14” or 15” would be the ideal size for me. The 12.9” is a kind of compromise.

I have 5 Logitech MX anywhere (2 and 2s) and 3 Logitech MX Master 2. The MX anywhere seem to work flawlessly. The MX Master sometimes work fine sometimes don't scroll. The solution so far has been disconnecting and reconnecting through the multi device button (it takes 1 second, no unpairing) but the issue with the MX master periodically reappears
