I have 5 Logitech MX anywhere (2 and 2s) and 3 Logitech MX Master 2. The MX anywhere seem to work flawlessly. The MX Master sometimes work fine sometimes don't scroll. The solution so far has been disconnecting and reconnecting through the multi device button (it takes 1 second, no unpairing) but the issue with the MX master periodically reappears

Thanks for the info. My Logitech scrolls. It is just slow compared to how I can scroll with the finger and how I can scroll with the same mouse using USB dongle on my computer.

It’s very convenient for all of my use cases and I’m not an artist. I use it all the time. In my opinion all opinions that the 12.9” is large, heavy and so on are just hot air. It’s neither big, nor heavy. I actually think it’s small because it’s smaller than a standard A4 piece of paper. I guess a 14” or 15” would be the ideal size for me. The 12.9” is a kind of compromise.

Are you able to handle that big a screen in all situations? Doesn’t it make it difficult to move around?

Eh for me things are not so much black and white. I do agree that not everyone would find the 12.9 inch heavy. I would however. It is big and heavy for me. It is true that in terms of screen size it is A4 paper format but it is heavier than one regular A4 notebook and this is at the most what I would work with in my old school/university days.

I have small hands and wrist issues. Just the whole idea of stretching my hand over the 12.9 inch screen would be an issue for me.

That being said I would also not say that not everyone is like me. For a lot of people 12.9 inch is fine. There are also people who do not find it portable enough to use it on the couch or in bed.

I totally get why people would have both - I came to the conclusion that having both would be a perfect setup, but I can’t justify it to myself from a financial point of view. I’ve also found that the more I use the 12.9”, the more it seems to shrink and I find myself not wanting a smaller screen in any use case.

Its kind of like laptops though - there’s times I’d prefer a 16” MBP for the screen and power, but other times I’d much rather have something more portable.

[QUOTE="DrSarah, post: 28418965, member: 1214281"

I already have a Mac Mini i7/32GB/500GB with a 4K display and a MacBook Pro 13” 2018 i5/8gb/500 to do the job on the go. I Just really like iPad OS and the new keyboard is just amazing. I could say, get rid of the MacBook pro but i like that it is full MacOS and that i can boot in to Windows when needed for work, i love this machine too!

[/QUOTE]

Interesting thread to read.

Just curious, with the MacBook and now iPad Pro do you still use the Mac mini? I have a 2018 MacBook Air and a iPad Pro 11. I've have a large movie collection & thought about getting a mini just to set up Plex and have streaming but bought 3 external hard drives instead for $99 each and plugged them into the Roku Ultras I have and that works fine.

My 10.5 (i dont really care for the 11.0 as I prefer touch ID and more importantly the sturdier chassis for traveling) with ASK and sleeve/pencil (which is far superior to the keyboard folio of the 11.0 IMO) is my go-anywhere, work and travel trusty Ipad.

My 12.9 (3rd gen) with magic keyboard is my traveling monitor around the house, everyday use Ipad. Maybe I'm folding laundry in the laundry room, cooking dinner in the kitchen, or on my exercise bike in the garage. I love the size for viewing content, but would not want to take it to work, or try to use it on an airplane, etc. It's just a little too big.

I even had the last gen 12 inch macbook, but felt it was overkill to have all 3 and ended up selling it on ebay a few months back (for a nice sum thanks to it being discontinued).

If you said you could have any Ipad ever made, but could only have 1, it would definitely be the 10.5 with ASK. Best all-around Ipad ever.

Good question.

To me, the only advantage the 11” has for my use cases is in handheld mode. 12.9” is a better experience at everything else. So if I were to have both the 11” and 12.9”, here is how I’d separate them.

11” + smart folio: Anything iPad is for as a handheld media consumption device
- reading books, articles, apple news, etc
- casual web browsing
- media consumption (youtube, netflix, apple tv, etc)

12.9” + Magic Keyboard + Apple Pencil: Anything iPad is for as a desktop productivity device
- hand writing notes
- casual drawing
- typing up documents and spread sheets
- multitasking
- displaying full sized music sheets while playing piano

Not saying that the 11” can’t be used for productivity, or that 12.9” can’t be used for handheld media consumptions. Both sides of use cases are still interchangeable between both devices. Both are portable and I can pass the Apple Pencil to either one. I just think if I were to draw the line between the two sizes, 11” has the best overall experience for handheld media consumption and 12.9” has the best experience for desktop productivity.

Agree but I would say that the 12.9” has the best overall experience also for media consumption while at home. 11” seems better while on the go.

Notice I mentioned “handheld”. If both are on a desk then I agree, hands down the bigger screen wins every time. But when you’re holding it on the couch or reading a book while walking around for instance (yeah I do that), while the 12.9” is not too hard to hold, the 11” still puts less strains on your arms. So I gave that a win on the 11” in that regard.

I am in a similar situation (10.5 + 12.9) except that I still have the first gen 12.9... The 10.5 is perfect for on the go and even around the house, the 12.9 is more of a desktop and remote desktop device, as well as a documents viewer (mainly for power point landscape and pdf in portrait mode). Battery is pretty poor now on the 12.9 but it's not important since I don't move it much contrary to the 10.5. I think I can squeeze a year or 2 more out of it and the I see myself buying the 5th gen 12.9 with magic keyboard. No interest in replacing the 10.5 with the 11 (I prefer it's lapability, lower weight with the keyboard attached and touch id), I'll probably just replace the battery of the 10.5 in 2 years...

Well, as of myself I still prefer the 12.9“ naked even for media consumption while on the couch or in bed. I agree that for reading while walking around the 11” is better...of course. I would add that, in general, to read a novel probably the 11” is more suitable.

Yeah, when I had the 11 inch and the 2017 12.9, the 11 was my favorite device, and I had bought a lot more into the idea that 11 is superior for consumption the couch or in bed. But now that I have the new form factor 12.9, I actually prefer it to the 11 the vast majority of the time. Maybe it's because of the experience of seeing how drastically different the new form factor is, but the handheld experience of the new 12.9 is more similar to that of the 11 than it is to that of the old 12.9. But, of course, the new 12.9 is just as good as the old one for all of the desk stuff. I'm in love!

My 11 is really nice for throwing in my purse/bag for around the town. And if I'm playing a game or working on my 12.9 and also want to multitask by reading something on my 11, handheld, it's great for that.

For me, I’ve gotten used to the 12.9 weight and size. But every once in a while I grab someone elses 11 and it feels impossibly light and I instantly regret returning my 11.

Since we’re stuck at home then I am happy with the 12.9 as my only iPad but I do worry how I feel once the world starts moving again so I may get an 11 one day. (BTW, Apples Refurbished iPad Pro 11” (2018) For $549 is back in stock At Apple. So tempting...)

The 11" has a feeling of being a secret productivity weapon ... it's about the smallest size it can be to still do all the things you want it to do when you put it on a desk. The 12.9" is obviously even more productive than that, but the extra size adds friction that makes it more of a "at home" or "at work" device and less of an "everyday carry".

Feel the same way. Before the stay-at-home orders, I usually just left the 12.9 at the office and brought it home for the weekends (it has its own laptop bag). Now, I never know if/when we'll be told not to come to the office (we're considered essential) so I'm forced to carry it daily.

Yeah it all depends on our different needs and habits. I can say that if we're in the habit of always carrying around the iPad, using it mainly for content consumption and sometimes for work the 11” would be a better choice. If we‘re in the habit to use it mainly at home/office (not on the go) both for content consumption and work then the 12.9” would be a better choice. Apart from that there could be many other variables such as age and therefore eye-sight, usage such as standing or one-handed use etc.

Update: got my refurb 64GB WiFi 12.9 in to accompany my 256 Cellular 12.9 and my 2018 i5 Mac Mini.
Needs some adjusting, which requires another stand, but I know it’s gonna look great.
Double Display Headless mode.

well, my Magic Keyboard 12.9" can still not be ordered in The Netherlands (besides on the Apple website but their delivery times are outrageous at the moment). They say may 14th new stock will come to some shops here,, hope this is true because I really want to use the new 12.9" iPad with the keyboard.

In the meantime, I found out to set the correct resolution for the iPad Pro trough screens by Fedora so my iPad can fully work as a laptop replacement when I need to connect it to MacOS. Awesome!

I do hope you manage to get your MK. It has been an absolute game changer for me and my 12.9! I’ve hardly touched by MacBook Pro 13 since getting the MK that I really am thinking of selling that now.

And there it finally is, the Magic Keyboard for my 12.9” iPad. What a journey It was. Checking all the retailers everyday, hoping it pops up somewhere. Eventually i started regretting not ordering it at Apple cause it seemed it was not going to be there anytime soon.

Until Thrusday where a retailer, not the one i preferred Got stock. I ordered it inmediately Within 30 Seconds. There were 2 options to have it send to me, normal and ”Extra” Secure and i choose that option. It shipped, i waited all day until i got this message that “the could not find the adres“, ugh called, gave instructions but could not get delivered anymore for that day, so they set it for Saturday (today).

So now working on it, it is great. The keyboard layout does feel better than on the 11”. The iPad really does get this full-on laptop feel and it is now “complete”. I love it, it does the job YES!

Still not sold the 11” though, nobody want’s to buy it for a reasonable price (they are offering 400 euro’s No way) so i kinda own both now Haha. Have not used it since i got the 12.9”though.

Finally it has arrived, good for you! How is the lapability/ working on your lap with this combination?

Good thing that you mention this, because one of the first things i did was that! It is a lot better on the 12.9” due to the bigger surface. It does not tip over if i sit in a office chair. It is also not heavy because it is just like a laptop. No issues whatsoever.

Just spreading my thoughts out:

Using it now for the second day. Thing to notice that is is big With the keyboard. It does not fit in my 13”macbook sleeve cause the hinge is in de way. The reality is that it is a laptop now Which you can then rip the screen of to use it as a tablet.
This was different on the 11” as it felt as a netbook.

- Fun thing is is the screen aspect ratio, it is so tall, which i find wonderful to use and still the typing experience is just amazing.
- Battery does not drain any faster i think, at least not noticeable.
- floating design is more appaerend than on the 11”, people calling it out, could also be a coincidence.
- i have not touched the bottom of the iPad yet in the 12.9”while typing which did occure on the 11”.

tl/dr: Love this thing, happy i went with the 12.9” and very happy i have the Magic Keyboard right now as it confirmed for me that i made the right choice.

sidenote: have to check if it still fits in my handbag though i think the weight alone would not make it suitable to casually carry around with where the 11” was no problem.
