I was going to upgrade this year, but a phone with usb-c is very tantalising. People are saying usb-c cables and connections are not great, but that has not been my experience, whereas I will be pleased to say goodbye to Lightning forever. However, if usb-c is introduced next year, that will make my XS Max five years old. It still seems good right now, but another 18 months? I don't know. Having seen my wife's usb-c iPad Pro, though, I don't want another Lightning phone
Well, it depends on how often you connect your iPhone to your Mac. I for one, rarely do as I do AirDrop of the pictures to my Mac.The main issue with USB-C is durability. We've all heard of loose USB-C ports on MacBook. It's a well known issue with Android. Hopefully, we'll get longer lasting ports, but I wouldn't count on it.
Yeah I'm starting to notice this on my GoPro hero 7. It wiggles and is slightly lose now. As simple as the connection is, it's doesn't seem to be made for long term. Have a feeling there will be an update to this to make it better. The main issue with USB-C is durability. We've all heard of loose USB-C ports on MacBook. It's a well known issue with Android. USB-C is not meant for multiple uses like USB-A is. It's a bummer that the whole port was redesigned instead of working with the same USB-A port and make it work as originally intended.Yeah I'm starting to notice this on my GoPro hero 7. Just curious where the statement that usb-c isn’t designed for multiple uses come from lol. It’s a connection port for charging and data transfer isn’t that the definition of multiple uses?USB-C is not meant for multiple uses like USB-A is. If a port is become "loose" for several people, then it means the design was meant for a more stable use, not for plugging and unplugging. USB-A, in my experience, tends to stay as "tight" as possible even with a barrage of disconnects/connects.Just curious where the statement that usb-c isn’t designed for multiple uses come from lol. I don't think we will see a USC-B on an iPhone 14. Since the industrial design has already been finalized. USC-C will be here for iPhone 15. We still are almost 1 1/2 years away.

Oh same here. I don't use the MagSafe feature on my 12 Pro as it charges too slowly for my taste. However, I never unhook the USB-C cable from the wall power brick.I charge my iPhone every day by wire, so the change to USB-C would negatively affect me. On paper, USB-C is supposed to be more durable, but in reality the opposite is true. You can pull out an iPhone 5 and the Lightning cable will still snap into place.
I’ve got a X and I am not upgrading till either it stops receiving software updates or the latest iPhone supports USBCI got the 13 Pro with pledge I’ll hold on to it for year then give it away, silently hoping 14 "Pro" will finally get USB-C.
Silly me. Bigger sensors and slightly larger battery are always welcome, an upgrade no doubt. I will get it. Let’s say I won’t to be very enthusiastic about it.
Imagine the day you can charge your iPhone, iPad, Mac and Airpods with single brick and cable. The day you can use your Mac and iPad USB-C dongles, the day you can quickly copy your camera footage to an external SSD ready to edit it on Mac or iPad. The day they go portless they lose will more than this one customer. Luckily I live in EU where common sense decides what’s good for the environment and the customer.
Yeah there’s that. If they go portless with 15 I wouldn’t know what to do. I wish not to switch to Android. But I just couldn’t send wirelessly gigabytes of video footage, it’s slow and unreliable (even AirDrop). Are we 100% certain this year's iPhone won't get type C? Think about it. The EU are forcing apple to move to the connector, and that directive is already happening soon. Like, probably within the next 6 months. Why would Apple release a lightning iPhone this year, only to have to refresh it in 6 months to comply with the new law? Also, with rumours saying this year's iPhone will get 8k video recording, USB 2 lightning speeds on the pro models make no sense whatsoever. It's already too slow with 4k.
It's a really tough decision to me whether I'll upgrade. I'm rocking an iPhone X, battery isn't what it used to be and I really want an upgrade, but type C FINALLY coming to the iPhone is the only thing I really want. However, I also think it's silly to base buying decisions based on rumours, since there's always the chance Apple will instead ditch the port entirely and go wireless.
I think USB-C will be a major upgrade for a lot of people, especially if you shoot a tons if video on Pro models. But it’s really hard to tell which way will Apple go, USB-C or portless, even with the Kuo clues. Each would mean a pretty major iPhone redesign, and would affect millions and millions of people. Lighting as of now only annoys a small percentage of people like me.Upgrade to a new device just for a port? No.
Eventually if it become 1 port to rule them all great, and we can forget about all these different ports long term, even better.
I agree - although reports abound that usb-c connections are not good, my experience is like yours - no problems.I was going to upgrade this year, but a phone with usb-c is very tantalising. Well I hope Apple can make a more robust charge port in that case.I agree - although reports abound that usb-c connections are not good, my experience is like yours - no problems.
My 5-year-old Nintendo Switch has been plugged and unplugged from its USB-C dock more times than any phone in that time. Both controllers have falled apart but the USB port is still in one piece. Ditto all my chargers, Laptop and Android devices. Also the iPad Pro has been fine. The main issue with USB-C is durability. We've all heard of loose USB-C ports on MacBook. Is the problem with USB-C durability exclusive to Apple then? I had USB-C on a Samsung tablet I used for over a year, and it was plenty strong and dependable.Well I hope Apple can make a more robust charge port in that case.
