512 GB phone is useless without fast transfer speed like USB-C (USB 3.2) 10 Gbps. USB 2.0 lightning ports capped at 480 Mbps don’t cut it for me. Till then, I will continue to buy iPhone with lowest tier storage.

I have 128 GB iPhone 13 Pro and it’s a struggle. iCloud upload is slooooooow. Some big videos won’t even upload (on 2TB plan). 256GB should be a MINIMUM for next Pro models, especially when the ProRes is limited to 256GB storage and up. I can definitely see some videographer getting the largest storage because how limited you are with iPhones otherwise. Expandable storage would be solution for iPhones not having USB-C for fast media transfers but that’s never going to happen, and we’ll have to see about USB-C…

That's what I'm trying to determine between 256 GB & 512 GB of internal storage whenever I get a iPhone Pro Max in the future. Right now, I have 706 songs that were purchased from iTunes. Plus there's also ProRes video capturing.

Like slplss had mentioned, 256 GB's of internal storage should be the minimum.

I've always got the 256GB iPhones and never had a problem. I also have Apple One so 2TB iCloud storage. Currently used 170GB on current iPhone. However, I am considering the 512 but could manage sticking with 256. So, if you have 2TB iCloud Storage do you think 256 is more than enough? What do you think?

My data on the phone is just over 256 now so I stayed with 512 on my new iPhone 14. I have 2TB of iCloud. I use primarily iCloud to sync with my other Macs and iOS devices. I keep the majority of my data resident on my Macs and iOS devices.

Hey all,

I know a lot of you have decided to preorder a new iPhone in the 512GB configuration. I am curious why you decided to choose that storage level.

For me personally the 128GB model is more than enough. I use Spotify for all of my music, download a generous amount of apps and games, and take thousands of pictures. Even with this I won't even come close to approaching the 128GB storage limit.

I'm just genuinely curious why in the world you would need so much space? It seems like an absurd amount of memory unless you plan on taking tons of 4K videos.

Thanks!

Your question is same as "why some people are too rich?"

Exactly the same for me. I prefer to keep my pictures and most music stored offline as well and therefore 256 gigs are not enough anymore

After my recent vacation fiasco, 512gb for me. My music is 289gb loss/hi res and the pictures and videos I recorded last time for a week long trip pushed the storage boundaries of my 256gb iPhone.

The hotel wifi could not upload the videos and pictures that fast so they kept piling up until I finally had to delete other apps, music and videos I had downloaded on it.

Funny you mention this because I feel apple should at least start off their flash drives with 512gb and the apple one subscription should be 4tb at least.

Granted you can stack 2tb more for an extra 9.99 but at the moment I’m doing fine with 670gb on my family plan left 🤣🤣

My kids for some reason like to screen record their YouTube videos so I find myself deleting 10min-30min sessions that they could easily find again

With 512GB I can have my entire iCloud Photo Library (287GB) downloaded onto the phone, and my entire music library (55GB) downloaded in lossless, with spare. Currently my phone has 386GB of 512GB used so there's ~125GB free which I think is comfortable.

If i update my iphone from one year to the next i would go with 256, but if i keep the iphone for 2-3 4 years i would always go with 512...because in 3-4 years everything gets bigger...iOS updates, photos, videos, apps etc

macs doesnt start from 512..but you want the iphone to do that ?? never..when the macs will start by default with 512 then you can expect the iphones to do that as well
Next step is starting with 256, and maybe in 5-6 years to have 512 by default

So why not just get the 128GB and save yourself some money?
Currently I have a 13 Pro. I went to a concert and shoot a lot of videos and all the sudden I had no space left. I had to delete all. Right now I only have 26 gigs free. It says

45 GB of photos
21 GB of Apple Music
21 GB of apps
9 GB of iOS
6 GB of system data

512 GB iPhone 14 Pro for me, because of the 48-megapixel camera ProRaw, like shooting raw files. Use the lightroom app on my current 12 Pro 256 GB iPhone to shoot raw files anyway.

I've ordered a 512 GB 14 Pro Max. On my current 256 GB 13 Pro Max I'm using around 210 GB. Here are the primary culprits behind that number and why 512 GB is what I need next, maybe even 1TB in the future for maximum freedom:

1) RAW, ProRAW, lossless compression camera footage, and ProRes all take up a lot more room than regular HEIC photos and stock camera compressed footage. 512 GB means I can shoot a lot more footage and photos in those large formats without worrying too much. 48 MP ProRAW files will be even bigger (~75 MB files), it's easy to see how quickly you can eat up gigabytes of space in a single day of shooting. Additionally I've never really shot ProRes footage because of space concerns but I want to experiment with it on my next project.

2) With my lossless camera footage I will edit together videos in LumaFusion right on my phone, these projects are big and take up (at minimum) the same amount of space as the original clips. Sometimes in my edits I like to use old footage I've shot many years ago for reference and this requires a lot of downloading. I'm not always editing these videos in locations with a great WiFi connection so being able to store my entire photo library on my phone (500+ GB) would be a nice bonus, albeit not entirely necessary as I would have to get a 1TB model.

3) I'm frequently in zero coverage areas and I like having a lot of lossless music downloaded via Tidal for listening in zero coverage scenarios. Some albums are gigabytes in size alone. I would like to have more of my library downloaded, 512 GB gives me that headroom.

4) I have a few 'backup' movies from the TV app downloaded on my phone for when I need to pass time and don't necessarily have coverage or I can't burn through my roaming plan when abroad. Additionally I have YouTube downloads for concertos, these can be pretty big (1GB+ each in some cases). I would like to download more movies, TV series (30+ GB each), and YouTube videos.

5) Lots of apps that I might rarely use but want to have around in case I do need to use them in a pinch.

Mac’s do not record 4K pro raw content though on the go, iPhones do, everyone has their own needs for sure but on my last vacation, my hotel wifi was scrambling to upload the data to the cloud that it did not caught up overnight, I had to delete music and movies I had downloaded to make room for more pictures and videos and that was a first for me in years!

Now that apple decided for us to download our music lossless and hi res, despite the fact that iTunes and Apple Music still doesn’t bother to let us know which songs in our library are hi res/lossless when downloading is a gamble that requires a higher capacity iPhone from the get go 😭.

Sound like another user trying to justify his purchase.

I got the 1TB version of the 14PM ordered and glad I did! My 13 PM is stretching the limits of it’s 512gb memory and I welcome the space. I do not use the cloud to store anything, I want it all on my device.
