I absolutely HATE the fact I use a case on my iPhone. Love the feel/look of it without one so much, but around the time the backs became more slippery and the camera began protruding, I started using a case and haven't changed since.

For the first time I debating going 'naked' again though. I'm on iUP now so will get the new model every year, which to me is a comfort factor because if I damage it it's never too long until it'll be replaced.

So those that already don't use a case - how does it fare? Do the camera lenses scratch easily? Does the back generally mark badly if left/moved around on desks/tables etc?

Any experiences appreciated.

Try a transparent skin for better grip and scratch protection.

quick tip i’ve been using since the Marine Corps.. when you’re about to put on a new pair of pants, pull the phone pocket inside out and pull all the lint and other BS out of it.. it’ll help in the long run.
I do so every so often. Especially important if you come in contact with any sand. A single grain of sand in pocket will scratch the screen big time as you move around.

Another tip for anyone wearing diamond stud earring. Diamond will scratch phone screen when you hold it to ear for a call.

iPhone 6S since 3 years with no case, but new screen protector every 6 months or so. Every time I change the screen protector I feel like I got a new phone :) Had 1 screen replacement (which basically is a top case replacement including the fingerprint sensor) and 2 battery replacements (all on AppleCare+, done in different countries while traveling).

I roll commando, but I also look after my stuff, so not a single blemish anywhere on my 8 Plus.

I used my 11 Pro Max for about 3 months naked...and loved it. I was always of a mind of hating the fact that I’m adding all of this size/bulk and just wanted to use it as it was designed. I used it exactly how I’ve always used my phone..carried it in my pocket, placed on wireless chargers, in a vent mounted dock in my car, left it on the granite counter, etc and it remained in great shape...until it fell once. The only damage it suffered was a hairline crack in the main camera lens but that was enough to warrant the use of one of my AppleCare+ replacements.

As I’m not on iUP and only have one more incident of accidental repair/replacement available, I’m back in a thin Torras case.

I don’t expect to have to use AppleCare+ more than twice in a year and with iUP, you’d only have to wait one year between upgrades. My phones generally fall down line to a child when I upgrade so iUP isn’t an option. If I was in your position though I would still be using it without a case.

I'm at the other extreme. I use a full wallet case on my phone, with a closing flap which acts as a kickstand. The risk is too great for me for something which costs 1k+. Also I keep my phones/devices for a LONG time!

I wish I had the stones to go without a case. I'm more worried about damage the occasional drop than I am day-to-day wear and tear. I think anyone having kids in the house can appreciate the struggle.Sh** happens!

I use a case on my 11, an Otter Box Commuter Series. For me, it makes the 11 easier to use/hold/pick up. And it does not add a bunch of bulk and still slips into my pocket just fine. Back in the 4/4S days, I did not use a case, never had any issues, phone looked great. When I got my 11 I had problems picking it up and found it a little slippery and just felt too thin when gripping it. So on went a case. I take it off about once a month and do a little cleaning and what not just to keep things looking good.

I use a front and back skin and the phone still looks new although I don't keep it in a pocket with my keys.

I buy used iPhones mostly and use them either without a case until I get an itch to upgrade to a newer used iPhone or until I break it, whichever comes first. On average I keep a phone for 12-18 months. So the upgrade itch has won that race all but once.

Cheapo noname cases from ebay/amazon/aliexpress are all ugly, and name-brand good-looking cases are expensive.

My XS went naked for probably 8 months. No issues, some mild scratches on the back, no big deal. Then one day I was working in the garage in a crappy pair of shorts with less than ideal pockets.. Lifted my leg up and out slipped the phone and I knew it was shattered before it even hit the concrete. First time I had it happen to me in the 10 or so years I have owned an iPhone. Luckily I had AppleCare, but the back is what shattered unfortunately. If the front had broken it would've only been a $30 fix instead of $99. Oh well, not the end of the world. Since then I use either the Apple Leather Case or the Apple Battery Case.

Currently using a nice slim Caudabe case on my 11 Pro Max. Just ordered an ESR space gray bumper. My first time going caseless. I'm too chicken to go fully naked, so for now I'll go with my glass screen protector + bumper. The bumper has raised corners to protect the camera module when laying on a table which is a nice touch. I do have AC+ so if the back of the phone shatters it won't be the end of the world. I'll take my chances.

I never use a case, and I don’t treat my phones very delicately, and all my phones have been pristine. The only precaution I take is to not put my phone in my pocket with my keys.
BUT I only use small phones—4s, 5s, and now SE. If I had one of the newer big, round, slippery iphones, I would not feel as secure holding it and especially trying to use it one-handed, so I would definitely get a case. But that’s me.

I have to use protection as I dropped my pro max 3 times the first day, very slippery

I would like to use it naked, but it is made of glass , and it is a quite soft glass...
No thanks.

You tell me.
Photos are not good to see scratches, if not a very big one.
I am quite sure I could notice scratches on your device, especially on the screen.

Besides the topic, but from your photos I see why people might want to jailbreak their phones.
Actually I found that notification row ugly as hell 😖

My 11 Pro looks brand new still
Only screen has micro scratches but don’t see it when the display is on

The new back glass is fantastic

1300 Euro phone - goes with case and screen protector. I‘ll never forget when a case saved my 4s from a 6foot drop from a vehicle on a f... Afghan rock. The phone was pristine after I got rid of the dust.

I've never used a case until I got an XR in late 2018. The XR felt a little too slippery and the camera bump felt a little too big coming from a 6. So the main reason was comfort, and I went with a leather case that I am happy with thus far. I've never had an issue going case-less on any iphone, or blackberry prior to that.

when you buy the car you want, the color you want, do you wrap it in plastic as to protect it from scratches and dents? No? So neither should your phone.
