When I first got the iPhone X, I had trouble with the missing home button. You can triple click the right button to get the virtual home button. Then triple click again to make it go away. I also took a lot of accidental screenshots.

I don’t miss it at all. Never cared for Touchid and having a job using my hands for a living it doesn’t work 30% of the time compared to FaceId which I’ve had 5-10% failure rate. Thankfully the iPad has gone to gestures so the only time I have to use the home button is to unlock the device..

I don’t miss the home button at all. After a week of heavily using my X, I got used to not using the home button anymore. To be honest, I prefer no button anymore.

How does it handle multitasking, like switching between apps? Is it just as easy or do you find yourself going for the home button a lot?

The transition to a "button-less" device was super easy for me. It took a few hours at the most. In fact, using my iPad now feels slightly less intuitive to me and I keep forgetting that I have to use it the "old-fashioned way".

You can swipe up to quit an application in iOS 11, what are you talking about?

You have to press and hold and wait for a do not enter sign to come up near the app. It’s back to the old way on iOS 12
See the quote below yours. You are correct, you swipe up to force quit an app only after you press and hold the multitasker applications. If you tried it in iOS 11 you would just get sent to the home screen. It is a more natural sequence in my opinion in iOS 12.

For multitasking I swipe up and hold for a long heartbeat. That brings up all the open windows.

No need to sideswipe nor perform any other metacarpal gymnastics.

Throws me off going from iPX to iPad.

I'm holding out for a new iPad in anticipation next month will announce ipads with FaceID.

Exactly the same here with the iPad and also with hubby’s 6s (formerly mine).

I don't miss the home button. Never had an iPhone with Touch ID so I don't miss that either. Switching between apps is very smooth, once you get the gesture down, all it takes is a flick (unlike all the awkward attempts you saw on YT when reviewers first got their hands on the device).

I don't miss the home button. I recently had to revert back to my 7 for a couple of days. Hated it!

It took maybe 2 weeks for me to fully adjust to the gestures and lack of home button. My muscle memory kept wanting to rest my thumb on the TouchID to unlock my phone or to authenticate for the app store. After a few weeks, I really forgot all about it. The gestures are great and I honestly forget all about authentication because faceID works really well. I really only ever become aware of it when the sun is bright and FaceID doesn't work like it should which is when I wish they had built TouchID in as a backup. But for the most part, it's great. I have an iPad and the home button always throws me off because I keep trying to use the unlock gesture or wait for the iPad to unlock with my face (which it obviously doesn't do).

The only thing I liked about the home button was when Apple made the transition to the haptic home button with the iPhone 7, that I actually enjoyed with the sensation from the haptic feedback and was much quicker to use in its responsiveness. But overall, gesture controls really are more of a natural way of interacting with the screen without even really having to lower your thumb to use the home button on a larger phone like the Plus model.

I don’t miss the Home Button or TouchId at all! Took me about an hour to get used to the gestures as they are so natural. Multitasking is so much faster and better and faster since you just have to swipe along the bottom to switch apps. Yeah the 7+ had the option from the side with 3D Touch but it’s not close to the X. And bringing up the task switcher is second nature now. FaceID for me is outstanding.

With iOS 12 the iPad is much better to use with the iPhone X gestures. I don’t mind the Home Button on it as it’s rarely a device that I use off and on like my phone. Once it’s unlocked, I’m in it for however long I need it.

There is nothing about the Home Button I miss, and lots I love about it not being there. Love my X.

...if you miss the Home button, you do know that you can use Apple's virtual Home button as well (which works like the physical one but is a virtual on screen button), which is accessed via the Accessibility Settings?

I've been doing this very thing on my 8 Plus over the past year, so as to not constantly press the physical button.
;)
I hope you don't think the button on the 8+ is a "real" button. It can never wear out
