Overall FaceID works seamlessly and much better than I expected. The only issue I have is, in the middle the night, when the phone is on my wireless charger and I just want to take a quick look at the screen with my face still half buried in my pillow. I used to be able to reach over and unlock the screen without lifting my head or the phone off the charger. Not a big deal but it is the only thing that I miss.

I started using AssistiveTouch years ago after having issues with home button on the iPhone 5 wearing out and have used it since.

It’s not for everyone but I really like the setup on the Xs:
- single tap goes home
- double tap opens assistive touch menu
- long touch takes screenshot
- 3D tap locks phone

With opacity turned down it’s hardly noticeable and since you can move it around it’s never really in the way.

I did not do this bc I upgraded to the Xs but it seems very complimentary to FaceID regardless.

I've had the X since December. Not only do I note miss the home button, but now the one on my iPad annoys me. Almost right away the iPhone x gestures (swiping up is the big replacement for home button) just felt natural and more convenient to me. The home button on my 9.7" iPad Pro now feels clunky by comparison. Fortunately iOS 12 now allows me to use the same iPhone X/XS gestures on my iPad. On iOS 11 it was more frustrating to me that the same gestures could not be used on both my iPhone X and my iPad.

Many people will get used to the absence of a home button in about an hour. Some will take longer, and a few might be a little challenged by it. I could see my 82 year old mother becoming frustrated with gestures at first, but she would get the hang of it after some time. She upgraded to the iPhone 8+ shortly before I upgraded to the iPhone X. She was very happy that the 8+ functioned exactly like her old iPhone 6+. I'm sure Apple has done a lot of accessibility testing, but it just seems like the home button would be easier to manage for some people... especially those who have conditions that make their hands shake a bit. Surely Apple got feedback from some folks with motor control issues, and maybe swiping up wasn't any more difficult? Still, it's a thing that some people who aren't very technical will need a small learning curve to get. The home button did not have a learning curve.

Personally I don't miss using the home button at all, but I guess I am a little sad to see the iconic interface feature go.

Went from 6s Plus to Xs and don’t miss the home button at all.

Swiping is faster and more fluent. Face ID is also great, not just for initial phone unlocking, but for unlocking banking apps/safari passwords etc without having to put your finger on home button for Touch ID to work

What’s a home button?

In all seriousness though. No. Not in the slightest. Not even in one way. I wouldn’t ever go back to a home button.

As soon as I started using the iPhone X last November, I realized just how barbaric it was to mash that home button down all the time. I'm starting to feel the same way about the pressure required to activate 3D touch... it feels kind of archaic.

Not missing it at all and love Face ID.

With my work often being in cold high elevation climates in skiing, climbing, etc my fingerprints practically get erased weekly.

I think it took all of an hour to get used to the new way of working.

I've had the X since November of last year. It took about a week for me to get used to using a phone with no home button. However, now I don't even think about (or miss) the button. Everything is very fluid.
Exactly same here.

Wait, there used to be a 'home button'? - LOL
No, I do not miss it. And, the missus just upgraded to an Xs Max, from an iPhone 7 Plus, and within a day wanted to know why she didn't get an X device, from before.

Nope. Don't need it. Sure it's an adjustment and I may reach for that button but it's not needed. Just tap the screen and it's on and face ID unlocks so in some ways it's very similar. In fact I find that navigating around on my phone, going to home, going back between apps, is faster on my Xs Max than with a home button on my 8+

I would NOT pay $950 for a used X as they are discontinued and that's damn near the price for new. Hell no. Close enough to the price of a new Xs that i'd spring for it.
The X is discontinued?? Wtf why would they discontinue a brand new phone? They still sell the 6S!!

I searched for this thread and couldn't find it

It takes a couple of days but you get used to it. Occasionally i put my thumb at the bottom of the phone. I had an iPhone X for several weeks but didn't like it because it was to small. I got rid of it and went back to my 6+.

I got the XS Max on launch day and find Face ID better that the original X.

New to the Xs from my 6S abd I already hate the home button on my iPad. Gestures >>>>>> button

I don't know if I necessarily miss the button but I definitely miss touchid. I don't know if I'll ever set up faceid and putting my password in all the time is getting to be annoying.
