I'm going on almost 3 days without charging my note 5! It is by far the longest running phone I have ever had and if Samsung engineering thinks its smart to kill apps to save battery I'm all for it.

No one in real life cycles apps like this. And a fair compare would be marshmallow 6.0 vs ios 9 and the gs7 with the next gen soc as the note 5 is using the same chip as the gs6.
Fair comparisons for A-chips and Exynos will never be possible, as they are never released in the same seasons.

Yeah but when you do the full wipe, you'll have to leave certain data. That always ends up messing up my clean installs with bootloops or crashing. =(

I'm so old fashioned with my wipes prior to install. I don't even restore backups on my iPhones... Old habits die hard I guess.

100% agreed, SD cards help having alot of Movies to watch or SNES or N64 ROMS like me but this solved my problem and maybe help you get a Note 5.

Also my Note 5 can beat up your Note 3.

on my S6e, I can still do clean installs without wiping internal storage.

when you're switching to new ROMs that require clean installs, a Factory Reset in custom recoveries doesn't wipe 'internal sd' especially in TWRP, which is most likely what you'd be using on the later Sammies. it only wipes data, cache and dalvik cache. you'd have to specifically select to wipe 'internal sd'. so, you can be sure your ROM zip is safe there.

So a lot has changed with TWRP huh? Is that still the most commonly used custom recovery? I remember how CWM was the thing, then it moved to TWRP.

Now, I'm hearing the AT&T and Verizon variables of the Note 5 will brick. Is that the same for the 6 edge +? I'll probably end up with the T-Mobile variant if I decide to get another Android. I'm curious, if a good deal on an AT&T model pops up I'd like to know what I face.

I'm going to likely wait it out until next year. I think possibly, enough of us have wanted an SD card. I'd like to see if Samsung will release something to pull this particular fan base back in...

I can live without a removable battery and have done so with iPhones. I'll compromise that if they'll give me back SD card usage.

I should hope so! Only thing I wouldn't feel too confident about is that battery. My Note 3 has lasted up to 4 days. I hope Samsung has improved their power efficiency since they've given you a smaller MAh battery.

Apple did that too this year, my battery life isn't as good as it was with my 6. I'm sure with anything, YMMV.

I'm all for SD cards as long as they still offer a 64gb model. I have a ton of apps and don't want to deal with having to install them on the SD card and taking a performance hit.

it is for the later Sammies, at least. I use CWM on my S4, but that's because it's the only one I seem to be able to get working.

idk about the ATT and VZW variants bricking, but their bootloaders are locked to begin with. so, you're limited to Sprint, T-Mo and other non-US variants.

I personally have learned to live with no expandable storage, but miss the replaceable battery since they limit the life you can use the handset for, efficiently. unless you disassemble the device to replace the battery.

Ah, I think I could just keep around a decent power bank with two ports. Then I'll be good with my iPhone and whatever Android I get. I never keep my devices as long as I've kept my Note 3. The 4 wasn't a big enough upgrade for me and the 5 was like a different device all together. So, I am really glad this device had a removable battery.

If you keep your devices a while, it can definitely get tedious if your battery starts dying and can't do full cycles...

I think I could make due with 32GB. I've got more media and ROM stuff on my SD card than I do any app data. So for me, the phone won't have too much actually stored on it if I've got SD card access.

IV had a gs3,galaxy nexus,gs4,gs5 all had sd card slots and never once used it.most apps were a pain to store and most of the time it would not let you find and store things easily.

It was when Google was pushing for no sd cards and to be honest I never needed to use the space even though it would of been a pain using them.

I know some of you people know what I'm talking about.

If you ever downloaded a movie torrent on Android it was near impossible to get any torrent app to natively download directly to the ext sd card.

You would have to download it to phone storage then move it over.huge pain to deal with.

I've got the Sprint S6e, and honestly, it wasn't impressively fast till I loaded a custom rom. I bought my gf an S6 duos (she's an Apple user, first). I thought it would have been a smoother experience than a carrier model. nop! it lagged quite a bit. things didn't improve drastically till I did some optimising. since I didn't want to root, which would trip KNOX (and she wouldn't be able to use Samsung Pay when available), I decided to go with disabling packages and hibernating apps least used with a couple third-party apps. only then was it zippy smooth. oh, and battery run times are much better. the S6/e are notorious for poor battery run times.

I didn't have that experience. Mines was very smooth from the start. Of course I disabled the bloat I didn't want, mainly T-Mobile stuff. I have pretty good battery life. Around 4 hours OST with max brightness and standby lasts through the day.

Good to see the video as I generally like PhoneBuff's content. His Nexus evolution and comparisons were excellent and he is an Android guy like me.

Glad to see Apple upgrade to 2 GB after three years seeing it on Note 2 and Nexus 4. I don't care to debate this topic as anyone from both sides can have an argument on anything. Like the iPhone 6s still has TERRIBLE battery life compared to many cheaper Androids and WP.

What's the point of efficient RAM when iPhone users still have to charge by mid-afternoon? See where I am getting at? Pick a different topic and anyone can criticize any of their flaws which they all have.

I never charge my 6s+, and I use it a LOT during the day. I'd put it right on p ar with the Note 4, maybe a little bit better, so probably pretty equal to the Note 5.

I think the point is that no matter how much RAM Samsung throws at its phones, there are still issues. Although it's ironic that this is the year that iOS9 makes the non S iPhones lag so they are all in the same boat now. Even my 6s+ lags occasionally. IMO the topic should be fully explored, only through negative publicity will Samsung be motivated to change. Publicity is what has motivated them to improve touch wiz each generation and that's a good thing.

I'm not claiming it's "faslesified" as i7guy puts it. I'm saying when you record two different takes, there's room for manipulating the footage.

I've seen reviewers in the past test two devices at the same time and in the same footage. If you do things proper, you plan your recording; you can create a list of which apps to test and what order to go in. Make sure you have a steady hand and begin to test.

Yes, it takes planning but that's what good reviewers do.

I can't believe how long the battery on my 6S lasts. 24 hours easily where my 5s would have been on power brick life support; and this is with everything turned on. But hey, I'm glad you "don't care" to debate this as you might be a bit incorrect; no more than some of the claims in this forum about the lousy battery life of some of the new Samsung phones.

#1. Not anywhere near a real world test
#2. I'll be enjoying VR while the iPhone 6s Plus crowd won't
#3. Simple case of a software update will solve this
#4. If got a nice Collection of SNES and N64 games playing nicely on my Note 5.
#6. I can't stand the bulkyness of the 6s Plus the Note 5 has a larger display and yet its smaller and lighter.

the 6s and 6s Plus are great but pound for pound the Note 5 is a superior device IMO.
Having returned the note 5 because I prefer a smoother device I disagree in your analysis the note 5 is the superior device.

Samsung needs to stop pumping in hardware thinking that will fix their software issues of touchwiz.

Screen on time screenshot would give us a better idea of what we're looking at. Otherwise I could leave my phone on for a week easily.

Seems like the battery size is the number one key factor for great battery life in the iPhone. If the regular iPhone 7 gets a battery size of around 2,000mAh, then it should have decent battery life. Otherwise, expect one more hour at most.

Yeah, but I actually have to use the phone heavily to support my business. If I didn't use the phone, it can last up to 10 days. According to http://www.apple.com/iphone-6s/specs/ apple usage is 10 hours or so, which gets me through the day. And while I'm not a fan of a lot of these benchmarking tests, in order to show the point, about battery life I'm going to quote one website. http://www.ibtimes.com/apple-iphone-6s-plus-matches-samsung-galaxy-note-5-battery-life-test-2122313

I can make do with 32gb, but I can use a lot of streaming services for my media but can't do that with my apps, so I would prefer more on board storage. 64gb with SD card though would be perfect, best of both worlds.
