I grew up in upstate NY near Syracuse and do not miss the long, cold, harsh winters at all.
I hate long cold but especially harsh winters which we don't really have here.... we have real seasons and that is what I really love. We have real spring, summer, fall and winter when changing from one season to the next brings joy of different changes in surroundings and in what food is part of that season (fruit and vegetables).

We have 4 real seasons here in NC also, just not the long cold harsh winters. I have seen some of the most beautiful Falls here and unfortunately, also the sneezy pollen infested Springs. We also have a garden with a long enough growing season to get two wonderful harvests. I am retired from the Navy and have been all over the states and the world, and I can honestly say that this is the best place I have ever landed. Pretty much perfectly center point between my relatives in NY and FL. Been here for 22 years with no plans on ever moving.
