Our neighbours are retired so spend most of their time pottering around their garden making it look beautiful. Ours just looks like some kind of distopian future version of theirs after some terrible war has wreaked havoc upon it.

So you're going for the post-apocalyptic wasteland Mad Max look...nice! Just get out in the yard on the bike in full leathers and it will all come together beautifully. :)

Mine for today is a Red-winged Blackbird displaying some attitude.

God I hate gardening! I begrudge having to go out once a week to mow the lawn (and it's only tiny). My excuse is that the weeds are good food for the tortoises :)

Well do your neighbours let you take photos in their garden? If so problem solved!

greetings and salutations

come on over and check out the new MR photo contest : Two|One

be well

Nice idea. Come summer I will definitely be up for doing something for this.

I think we all have a fair amount of archive photos and it’s nice to see a contest that challenges you now rather than trying to retroactively applying a theme or genre to a photo you previously took.

An unusual perspective for a hummingbird shot. Very well done.
Are you lying there in wait? Handheld? (Sorry if I missed where you already told us how you get these shots).

Thanks, Puckman. Of the shots I have posted, about 2/3 are handheld. This particular one was from a tripod, triggered remotely -- the lens is positioned just beneath the feeder, a few inches back from the yellow port/bee-guard, and tilted up.

A feast for the eyes: so many colours, shapes and textures...

A lovely old-fashioned sweet shop with good old-fashioned courteous service. Shame about the table and chairs in the way, but I didn't want to risk a good old-fashioned clip round the ear by moving them.

I know Haworth... and the shop. Next time, pop inside and sweet-talk the proprietor. Say you want to photograph the shop front, and could you move the tables and chairs for two minutes... then put them back. Then photograph the proprietor in the shop doorway, and offer to email a couple of pix.

I hadn't thought about getting the proprietor in the doorway - that would have made a great pic. I'll definitely remember next time - thanks for the idea.

BTW - stunning colours on your bluebell photo.

LOL thats funny. I already had this on Flickr ready to upload!

If dandelions didn't seed around absolutely everywhere we'd probably be growing them deliberately! It's just that we have this vision of what the place will look like if we turn our backs on them :)

I enjoy gardening. :) We don't have a lot of topsoil and it's very light with millions of stones and drains like a colander after rain so I grow mostly Mediterranean plants. I don't know that garden pictures are very popular here so don't tend to post them, but this is what I do

By the way, that's a mulch of gravel, not the stones in the soil.

That looks really nice. If you can imagine that but covered in weeds and tortoise poo then that's my garden......minus the ornaments.....and order.....and aesthetic beauty.....and care....

Lovely bluebells. I wanted something like this the other day but they were very patchy. Going to try again Saturday.

This reminds me of one of those impressionist paintings. Simply outstanding.
