Spring! It's coming to Canada! They finally stopped forecasting snow and closed the last standing ski hill. Rejoice with me!

It's a photograph of an upright piano's iron plate. When a piano is tuned to proper pitch, it can have up to 15 tons of tension inside it, hence the beefy iron plate.

I can see it now.

Not exactly what I had in mind when I set up for this shot, but I thought it was amusing nonetheless...

Peek a boo!

It was a really fun shoot (I reckon the sun being out did help).

Great shot with lots of emotion and enthusiasm Archie…well done.

It may have been "a really fun shoot "but I'm guessing that there were no bacon double cheese burgers, fries, onion rings or chocolate shakes to be found anywhere near these people.

This shot really invokes feelings in me…feelings of being old and overweight.

He's going the wrong way!

Heres mine for today. I like this shot more than yesterday's Bluebells except the clump of green leaves. I tried this tree stump (which I found made a good point of interest/contrast) against the Bluebells from a number of different angles and focal lengths, but preferred this one. Any pointers appreciated.

Well if you have a look at the BTS video you will see that there was some ice cream involved!

Thanks for the comments. I used to take straight forward group shots (and still do) but it’s always more fun having a zany, crazy one which is always more memorable and exciting.

---

Almost run out of recent film shots to post but fortunately a recent video I shot will be released tomorrow so I will have some BTS shots from a new film stock that was pretty fun to shoot!

Here is a shot of Kath with a bit of a light leak!

As always, comments appreciated!

Osprey , near Atlantic City ... probably thinking " If I was a hummingbird I wouldn't have to eat these smelly fish..."

Tree Swallow

Another sign that spring has returned to us.

Great capture. I've had the hardest time shooting birds and getting their colors to show.
1) The lighting never seems to be right for where the bird's at relative to where I'm at, washing out most color.
2) I always end up too far away...hehe.

Anyway. I LOVE the color on this one.

Something a bit different from me today.

C&C welcome.

Where do you find birds like this? I thought only blue jays were blue around here ;)

As far as light goes, this looks very good and I would fetch a guess it was an overcast day, no? Looking at this and at my shot (which is old, there are no flowers like this here yet), I think overcast is rather good for nature closeups. Perhaps when the cherry blossoms take off, I'll have to pick a cloudy, if not an outright rainy day for a photo shoot, instead of the more pleasant sunny ones.

Thanks Puckman and themumu. It really is great to have these guys return along with the warmer weather. :)

As far as lighting is concerned, themumu is correct...that shot was taken last Sunday during a heavily overcast part of mid day in a meadow where trees don't affect available light and shutter speeds are high enough.

The Tree Swallow has iridescent deep blues – some people like to capture that iridescent shine in direct sun but I find it results in a lot of tiny clipped highlights that just appear as white and not the true colour. So overcast around mid day works very well.

The same applies to many flowers and is the reason people photograph blooms and blossoms on an overcast day or in filtered sunlight.

As others have noted, beautiful color in this, Peter. It is definitely challenging trying to capture both iridescence and the full range of color.

Of course, the hummingbirds are probably thinking, "if only I was an Osprey or something, I could actually sit down and enjoy my meal..." :)

For today...

Something different again today. I've been trying to change my subject matter up a bit.

Question though: Do you guys feel like this looks a tad overprocessed? After adding some contrast and vibrance, I'm now questioning whether those blues are a bit much.

The blues make it a very cold feeling shot, though perhaps it was cold :) Wouldn't call it over processed though.

I cheat and apply contrast and vibrance correction in camera, so it takes minimal post-processing to make the image how I want it.

I would say it's suffering from a little overexposure.
This is of course only my opinion, and is therefore totally subjective.
I gave it a bit of a tweak - see what you think...
