Fond memories of Ely Cathedral. While it was a trip there from Thetford where I lived, one memory was attending a Sunday service and my introduction to Harvest Sunday. Walk in and find bundles of crops, bales of hay with sheep, cows and other livestock. Given the time of year, the religious service of giving thanks for the bountiful crop to sustain over winter is really the tradition the Pilgrims brought with them across the pond for the First Thanksgiving, and is a message lost over time to Americans as Thanksgiving developed its own storyline. Excellent photo, and not only the lack of people, but rare to see the chairs assembled. On my return in 2017 to visit former neighbors, stopped in Ely, and yes I have people in those photos (not going to check my old slides from the 80's) but I liked this exterior. It differs from the straight on front entry or street view approaches. Rather, it shows the nice contrast with the landscape. One usually thinks of a cathedral as surrounded by the town.

The Sparkill Creek Drawbridge , built in 1880 . Apparently , it was hand crank operated when the lift was working . Just a footbridge now .

I drove past this spot the last couple of days on the autobahn on the way to work. Three days in a row, there were the most spectacular mornings mists you could imagine (there's a brook somewhat to the right and smaller lakes and ponds all over the place, so the air is quite humid).

Came back on the fourth day today with time to spare and my camera, same time, same conditions – only the vaguest hint of some haze…
