🌴⛓️ Lone Cypress, The Saga Continues… 🌴⛓️

Located in 17-Mile Drive, Monterey, Pebble Beach, California.

Here is a close-up shot. Recent storms knocked down an entire section of the iconic tree. The Lone Cypress lost its left limb during an extremely powerful storm in 2019. :( If you look closely you can see an attached cable holding down the tree. The separated tree branch has been left on the shoreline. The tree itself is very healthy. It is said to live for at least another 100+ years.

Isn't this a stock image available on Alamy? I've seen an image there that I would swear is exactly the same:

No, the waves in the water are different. It's just a popular subject, and I suppose it's ideal to stand on that spot.

Refresh wasn't complete, they failed to refresh the Rotary symbol or they should have had the local club do it.
As a past President of a club back east, that is a sad sight to see.

Back in the 80's I designed and installed all the sound systems at The Links at Spanish Bay, and frequented that spot often. I wish I had an iPhone then. I have a poorly done B&W photo on my bedroom wall, they did a poor job of printing trying to burn it over exposed areas.

I think I also have the exact same photo. If I remember right space is limited for viewing the tree so everyone has the same photo. Also the weather in the area is usually always overcast. So again all the photo look the same.

I have a photo from the top of Diamond Head in Hawaii that I have seen over and over again. There are only so many places to stand in spots like that, so the only thing that differs is a slight framing (focal length) change or post processing

Thanks, all! While I realize that this is a particularly popular spot for taking photos, as in fact was mentioned in the post in which the image was shared, it first struck me as odd that the image was a .png rather than a .jpg and that there was no EXIF data available, which is what prompted me to then do a little looking around.

The bottom line here, of course, is that this is a thread where participants are expected to share only images that they themselves have shot.

@Clix Pix There is plenty of space to stand around there. I took well over 50+ images of the tree using different angles. There are plenty of places around and the tree can be seen from different angles, views, and focal points. That Albany picture you shared shows there is a lot of seaweed across the sea. The photo I posted doesn’t have any of that. The ocean can be seen as clear water.

@AlixSPQR @dimme and @mollyc are correct. Thank you 🙏🏻 The picture may look the same however if you pay close attention to the little details such as a shape of a rock, waves of the ocean, weather, clouds, or the tree itself it shows all the little details.

I will be posting the last series of the picture later tonight. I've attached a screenshot of the pictures taken from my personal iPhone 13 Pro Max for your convenience. It gives you a good idea I took all the pictures from all different angles and spots using my personal iPhone. Almost all of the pictures came out perfect. Thus, they may look the same but they are really not. Lastly, also mentioned it is the most photographed tree in North America 😇

Yes, it's normal to have lots of photos of landmarks or other popular subjects taken by different people that look almost identical. Even photos of the Auroras taken by two photographers who may be next to each other can look similar.

🌴🪨⛓ The Last Day of the Legendary Lone Cypress Tree Saga Ends Today 🌴🪨

Today, we will analyze this legendary 250+ old tree more in-depth. The shot taken is more focused on the tree.

In 1941, a stone retaining wall was constructed around the base of the tree to protect its roots from erosion. In 1948, a series of cables were installed to help support the tree. In the picture, we can also see a cable more clearly supporting the tree while it oversees the Pacific Ocean.

The tree date was seeded in the year 1750. Age 250 years. 17-Mile Drive, Monterey, Pebble Beach, California.

The nature reserve of Dehesa de Abajo, La Puebla del Río, Andalusia, Spain. February 11th 2016.

Please notice the white stork (Ciconia ciconia) in the left upper corner. I didn't see it until way after I had shot the picture. Without it, the picture would be profoundly boring.

FYI: There were plenty of white storks there, it's one of their important winter quarters in Europe. The trees are olive trees (Olea europaea) and cork oak trees (Quercus suber). The flowers are native onionweed (Asphodelus fistulosus).
