Thanks AOO. Very useful information. My biggest issue with macro shots of this type is the wind. Even on a slightly windy day, when aiming for just part of the flower to be in focus, it really is hit and miss, even with a fast shutter and tripod.
Weather permitting I'll give it another go tomorrow.
I defiantly like the angle of your shot. Much more pleasing on the eye.

That's cool. Windy days and macro are a nightmare, however, it does offer an opportunity to experiment with longer shutter speeds and capturing in camera movement, which can be quite interesting and effective. Don't be scared to rip a flower off the plant and take it home, where you can stage an image perfectly, playing with posing, framing, lighting, backgrounds, etc... You may even end up with a live subject within it that you didn't know was there! :cool:

Ha. If you knew my family you would know why that is not a good idea!
My daughter even objects to plants in the house due to her issues.
