Thanks MacRy and it's nice to see that you've been given a break from the tube for a bit of fresh air and maybe a bit of sunshine but don't stay out too long...we'll all miss those great indoor shots of yours. :)

Thanks Peter. I'll be back underground again soon. I'm beginning to think that I might be part mole.

Looking past the mundane?? That suggests two things: that 'normal' colouration is mundane, and that IR shows us something more interesting or revealing. Can't say I agree with you. The IR effect (bw or colour) has an instant "wow!" quality, but, like HDR, tilt-shift, fish-eye effects, and other photo tricks, that "wow" can soon become "meh" once we have seen a few more examples and discover how the trick is done. Just my two-pennorth (two cents, for those across the Atlantic)...

Sorry, by mundane I was referring to the IR shots I've done so far once you get past the initial wow factor.

In no way would I suggest that colour was mundane or that IR was special.

I will try and post fewer of this sort until I can learn more.

Cheers :)

I know it looks like another bird on a stick but this was quite a capture for me as Kingfishers are notoriously shy and skittish around people. This shot required shooting from a blind while still being absolutely still and quiet for long periods of time.

I'm still hoping for a shot of one diving for fish but even if I don't get that shot at least I've had the chance to see it up close...they're a lot of fun to watch if you're into that sort of thing as I am.

Following @mikestimson 's amazing bee capture above! I wanted to go with the pets, but they just won't look at the huge lenses and are blurs on the mobile.

Bee on Sunflower. 90mm Tamron lens with 45mm extension tubes, which are way, way too close for comfort for me, and a speedlite/softbox. I've actually dropped the kit and run away like a big-girls-blouse when a flying insect has landed on the lens and freaked me out!

Thank you for the kind comments about my bee photo! You did pretty good too, but I know how tough it is to get close enough with a shorter lens. Having the 180mm gives me a good bit of extra distance, it will focus at 1:1 magnification at around 1 foot/30cms. Sorry but I had a good laugh at your scare when the bug landed on your lens!

Nice. Your patience paid off.
As long as they are not pigeons I'm not going to complain.
There's something very rewarding about capturing a hard to spot animal or bird isn't there?

It's always good to experiment, and don't stop posting the results. We all have different tastes, fortunately... :)

Thanks, hope we've cleared that up a bit :)

Still avidly following your blog, by the way.

Cheers :)

Thanks AFB and so true. The effort is all part of what I enjoy so much about photography.

@Cheese&Apple Well done, Peter. To capture these skittish fellas is nigh on impossible. We have them locally and they are mighty quick at disappearing when you appear! Bravo for your perseverance!

@Doylem I've long had Megalithic envy of you folks, with your standing stones, circles, etc. I have created a few rock circles with the appropriate Solstice, Equinox, etc... points in them.

This one you have captured, interestingly looks like a composite of various rocks to form that shape.

Who needs a roof!

(now straightened!)

@Apple fanboy Definite size envy for me! Apart from parliament house, the governors residence and a few other buildings, we have nothing of that sort of grand proportion! Roof or not.

I really love that I get to live vicariously through all you folks here and not add to the pollution issues of the world zipping here or there for my fix of images.
