I expect that this coming fall and winter I will be spending a lot of time in learning editing programs that are new to me, since forthe past several years all I have used is Aperture, and the reality is that my beloved Aperture will be going away one day for good, not even available to download from my Purchases in some future OS....and I need to be prepared. Aside from that, I also was jolted into current-day reality when I realized that Aperture does not support my newer cameras, especially when I shoot in RAW. I’ve got a couple of trials going of some RAW conversion and some editing software and so far I like Luminar 2018 the best (I’ve purchased that one) but it has limitations at the moment since it does not include a DAM component. Capture One Pro 11 for Sony is an amazing, flexible program but it still feels like too much and probably overkill for my purposes. Anyway, sorting through what will work for me and make my workflow smooth now has been challenging, since with Aperture it was all just so easy......

I am resisting moving into Photoshop and Lightroom and the whole subscription-based thing, but who know, it may come down to that in the end.....

Gosh, the spots remind me of a brownie but I guess it's a salmon going up a fish ladder. Good catch! Guess the puns will start now.

Luminar is working on a DAM and sent a notice out at least a month or so ago to that effect. There is a fair chance they will release it before the end of the year. Not a guarantee but a fair chance. In the meantime if you haven't done so already, i.e., all of your pictures in Aperture are housed within the library and not referenced, you may want to move them to an external HD or separate folder (single location is best). you should consider doing that. From my understanding Luminar will be accessing photos for it's DAM from a location of your choosing.

Yes, thanks, Florian, I have my images safely stashed in a place where they are accessible by other means than simply Aperture..... I've been doing that since the beginning as I never liked the idea of having one software program "managing" everything. They are safely stored on external drives and in separate folders. Many of them are older images now, too, so they are also on my external drives that I use for archival purposes.

Really looking forward to whatever Luminar comes up with as far as a catalog/DAM function goes....I'm also looking at other options in the meantime, too, which is good, but haven't settled on any one program as being "the one" for either DAM or for image editing. Fortunately or unfortunately, as the case may be, I had never gotten heavily into the whole DAM thing with Aperture, had mainly used it for post-processing/editing and that was it. This may be good now, although on the other hand there are times I regret that I had not set up a more effective cataloging system years ago!

U.K.
Thanks keyrex. IMO, they're one of the prettiest birds I've photographed. Our Belted Kingfisher is not nearly as colourful.
I hadn't heard of the belted kingfisher, he is very cute but nowhere near as colourful as the common one.

Are you referring to near Kinver? I've been there but never seen one.
No, just off the Bridgnorth Road near Pool Hall Fisheries, there is a long brook that runs parallel to the road, i've been told there are a pair of Kingfishers down there, been living there for years apparently, though i've never seen them.
That wallaby was spotted near Kinver though, do you know if they've caught it yet? The article made me laugh it said the wallaby spotted running away from Sainsbury's in Wombourne, i wondered if he had been shoplifting or was perhaps heading back to his enclosure, sharpish, having seen some of the residents of Wombourne. Joking apart, i hope they manage to catch it soon, it surely can't be safe for it roaming around Dudley.

A goldfinch - lovely.
We have a couple come down to our bird bath occasionally, but they never stay still for long enough to get a camera out ;)

Cheers :)

Hugh
They visited everyday for about a week. I've not seen them since. But their call was very specific so I knew when to grab the camera.

I stand corrected, thank you @lizardofwoz ! As soon as I read your mention of Ireland, the penny topped for me, Irish Wolfhound! Duh!

Does Luminar give you the option to be able to wrap the texture to the image like photoshop after you have mapped its dimensional qualities? It is quite effective here, but you can see its flat across everything and not wrapped around the stylus. I'm a pedant, I know. No insult or taking away from your efforts is implied here either, I am just curious as to how far Luminar has come is all.

Hi Alexander,
The first Irish Wolfhounds in Australia (in recent times) were imported and then bred by an Adelaide vet, so South Australia was in there right at the beginning. It is rumoured that an earlier Wolfhound was imported to Victoria and was bred back into a line of Scottish Deerhounds to give them a bit more 'substance'. That breeder's hounds were certainly majestic. He denied the cross, of course.
