Rats like bird seed more than birds do.
Our feeders are rat proof. You get a small amount of spillige, but the ground feeders take care of most of that. Plus we have some cages on the ground that prevent rats and pigeons getting a look in.

Water is often overlooked we put four bowls around the garden at different heights but I must admit sometimes I forget to fill them
Good idea leaving the neighbours to feed them, I think that maybe why we have so many rats, although I do now know they live in the adjacent garden and have called environmental health so hopefully they’ll sort them out.

That must cost an arm and a leg, I feed once daily or sometimes every other day, I do however have several feeders so there is always food somewhere.
It’s great when they all turn up en mass, they make a right racket and always make me smile.
We have 7. The nut feeders don't get much action in the summer.

It keeps Mrs AFB busy whilst I'm at work. Anything that distracts her is a good thing.

A shot of the Lowarn Burn Waterfall just outside of New Galloway, SW Scotland. A shot I've wanted to do for ages with the panoramic camera - although I think Autumn may suit the scene better.

Fuji GX617 Panoramic with Fujinon 90mm f5.6 SWD lens using Formatt Hitech Filters Firecrest 0.9 solid Neutral Density filter and Firecrest 105mm Polarising filter on Fujifilm Velvia 50 film.

I would absolutely love to have him in my garden, trouble is he might scare all the others birds away, he would have afield day with all those bloody rats though!
Sometimes we get buzzards overhead, they live quite local to here and a few days ago, amazingly, a kestrel flew down into a neighbours tree to get his dinner then flew out again a few seconds later.
I would like to see those photos and look forward to your forthcoming pics.
Here you go then. Shot through our patio window, so not as good as I'd like.

Wow, thats fantastic and just as good as i'd like,(your patio doors are cleaner than my windows!) the vignette/edge blur sets it off and the background blur makes it stand out with those piercing eyes. Awesome shot. Keep them coming.

Thanks. This one was a LR edit, but I've been trying some things in PS. I have about zero knowledge so I'm watching YT videos and then trying to replicate.
LR was so much easier to learn than PS.

Thats what i have done, used YT for tutorials, its remarkably good. My students say 'Who needs schools when you have google' - i cant really argue at times!

Thank you both. Turns out that the Kingfisher shots were my favourite from the whirlwind stop in Scotland on my way home from Svalbard.

They are a favourite of mine too, now. They really are beautifully captured.

I like the expression “when the student is ready, the teacher appears.” The retort for your students could maybe be, when would they ever “be ready” to learn those things that they aren’t interested in, but still need to know? Based on my experience at work and in the world, it doesn't seem that basics like reading, writing, and arithmetic are the things many people are googling. ;) No doubt, the internet is great for learning more about what we are interested in, though.
