Welcome to Photo of the Day. The POTD thread was started by iGary in May, 2006 and converted to a monthly thread in November 2007 by Arn. POTD is one of the most popular picture groups on MacRumors, often exceeding 500 posts and 20,000 views per month.

Photo of the Day is intended to be a showcase for your best pictures. There is no limit to your gear, just your imagination. P&S and film cameras are welcome along with DSLRs. There are no themes like the Weekly Contest, and no winners (or losers) either.

Policies

*One Photo per Day - Don't post more than one photo each day.

*Multi-Quote - To comment on several photos, click the "+ (Multi-Quote) button. This puts all your comments in one post. Multi-Quoting is required on all of the MacRumors forums.

*SFW (Safe for Work) only - This is a site - wide rule. If you wouldn't show it in a public place, then it's NSFW (not safe for work). Think before you post.

*Describe your photo - Tell what it is and where you took it. If you know the EXIF data of a photo, include it. The following EXIF fields are recommended: Camera, ISO, Focal Length, Shutter/Aperture and Lens.

Note: Anyone may start the Photo of the Day thread on the first of the month GMT. Please copy a quote of this post to maintain all the formatting.

Summer vibes from this past week. Place des Nations, Geneva. The Broken Chair monument against anti-personnel mines and one of the entrances to the UN (formerly League of Nations) European HQ.

I really need to start travelling more - or dip into my old catalog as well.

Quite certainly lacking the technical expertise of others in this thread, but I was pretty happy with this, for just leaning out the window of my car with an iPhone X.

They have to be the 'clothes horses' of the insect world. I love dragon flies because no one seems to be the same. And they come in so many different sizes too. I had one that was HUGE land on my shoulder once, and it was so damn big, I think I screamed. I saw it out of the corner of my eye, and thought it was a small bird. Someone said 'Be careful! THEY BITE!!!' which I've found out isn't actually true, but that thing was big enough to leave a welt, and a story...

Their wings are just so amazing. So delicate, so strong. They are a conundrum, and I believe total badasses in the crowded insect world. They and praying mantis are two of my favorites. I will do everything I can to save a female mantis because I know there is a male out there waiting to give his live to have sex with her. Who am I to deny that?

That reminds me of the old GMC pickup truck my grandfather had. (It had the V8 badge on it) We used to pile into it and ramble around the town they lived in. We'd head out to the hardware, and go 'shopping'. He was a 'self made man', who built all of the units at a resort they owned from the 40's on.

But days in that pickup. It was such good times. Watching lymphoma take him away was the hardest time of my childhood. They sold the resort, and no one knows where that pickup went. It was considered 'resort property', and went with the sale. But I still have my memories, bombing around town, out with him. Simpler time. Simpler times...

The little Fuji may have it's problems with fine details in the greens, but it's strength is getting in close. As a bonus even set at the widest angle and from just a few inches away, the flash behaves itself.

Yeah. Sadly, my 11 Pro Max has major issues with 'close'. I don't know if there's a setting I'm missing, but yeah. I trashed my APS Powershot earlier this year. That camera was easily one of the best I have ever had. There will always be a reason to have a 'real camera', just not necessarily a film camera. (Think of all those one-hour photo machines filling landfills over the years! Everyone had one. My grocery had one for years. And they call it progress)
