5 shots - am I doing it wrong - I use 3 (0 / -2 / +2 EV) then munge them together in Nik?

Cheers :)

Hugh

Three five nine doesnt matter really... i was going for 2 ev difference on each one too. Shots 1 and 5 were black and white reapctively so thing three would be fine...and err... last time i looked you have upped your game so no you arent doing anything wrong... :)

Tsssk, you're using the wrong stuff: "Using a full frame DSLR and only the finest lenses"
Mediocre gear gives mediocre landscapes.... :)

I would love to have taken that shot though...

But zi dont know of a DSLR that natively supports the finest lenses? :)

And that one is as good as the examples you shared a link to in post no. 221.

Cheers :)

Hugh

Very kind of you thank you so much. I just wish the light was slightly stronger and the water level higher so I could get the water and polariser effect going on... nevermind, next time...

Hilarious! I imagine that this is exactly the way I look when Christmas shopping. Thanks MacRy...made my day.

Took a wander up to Loch Lomond today and got some nice pictures though as usual, not happy as they are not what I set out to get... Grrr...

That's a look of longing... longing to find something in the Leica shop with fewer than 4 digits before the decimal point on the price... :( same look we all get when shopping for our wives...

Nice use of DoF.

Yep I think that was the look. Mine was more of wonder and lust at the trinkets on sale.

Mine is usually a look of sympathy at the thumping my bank balance is about to take... I cannot go into that shop unless I am prepared to lose a few pounds... And not in a health club kind of way either!

Pink Rings by Matthew, on Flickr

Newlywed friends of mine asked if I could shoot their rings. Looked up a couple of ideas on the web and went with this for one of their pics. Feedback is certainly welcomed as this was my first attempt.

This type of product photography isn't my thing but I think whatever you have going-on in the air with the pink/purple is too much and takes my attention away from the rings. I'm also thinking that your composition (placement of the rings in frames) is very conservative with them centred and small.

What I'm seeing is a conflict between the busy atmosphere and conservative composition.

Think subtle background with elegant and dramatic lighting and composition for the rings...maybe black & white.

~ Peter

I agree with Peter that the background is very distracting and coupled with the (relatively) small size of the rings within the frame creates confusion for me. The rings are the "important part" of this pic but I don't think that comes across as well as it could. A less busy background would place the emphasis squarely on the rings.

I also would consider not having the rings stacked, but instead sliding the diamond ring off to the right but having it propped up against the solid ring at an angle. This would help to broaden out the subject so it fills a landscape composition better.

I would also experiment with the light (type and position--maybe sunlight from a window and/or controlled placement of flash(es)) as this will have a huge impact on bringing out the textures of the rings and the "sparkliness" of the diamonds.

This isn't my type of photography either, so take the above with a grain of salt ;)

Hahaha...nargh, I knew it was wonky. It just kept moving around during the shoot and well, I don't care. :D

I want snow! Enjoy, I bet the little one is.

Yuppers, though the snow quickly transitioned to sleet and freezing rain. Was mostly gone the next day. We did have time for the kiddo to play in it and being pulled around on a sled.
[doublepost=1482360722][/doublepost]Mine for today, also shot last weekend. Making cookies for the first time.
