Nearly three quarters of an hour later again and the Dragonfly has developed its full colours. The right wings were still stuck together and it was quite frequently flapping its wings to the point of almost taking off.

Brushing up on my macro skills for a project at work...

This was taken with an old pre-AI 55mm Auto Micro-Nikkor P mounted to a set of Novaflex bellows that were in turn stuck on my D800. It was 13" subject to focal plane, which if my math isn't too rusty is 6x life size It's probably in the range where I should reverse the lens, but I couldn't locate a reversing ring.

I should have also used a cable release, but I couldn't put my hands on an MC-1. Flash does mostly prevent motion blur, but not focus shift. I focused at the working aperture(5.6 marked on the lens, too lazy to figure out what it really is) using an eyepiece magnifier.

Illumination came from a trio of Norman LH2000 heads run off an 800 w-s pack. The main lights went into 36" shoot-through umbrellas, while a third was with a 12" reflector and fired at the wall to provide shadow fill. All three lights were at 200 w-s.

I'm going to play some more tomorrow.

This will be the last image of the Dragonfly, I promise! Taken five hours after the first one. When I came out again about fifteen minutes later it was gone. I felt honoured to have been able to witness and capture this amazing transformation taking place.

Well thank you for taking us all on that journey. A lovely set of images that really tell a story.

This was very cool! I went back to the other posts once I realized you were doing a series of sorts. You should put them all in one post so others don’t miss out on this joy. Are you on Instagram by chance? That would be a cool post.

Thanks, I think I'll leave the images where they are. I'm a strong believer in what-will-be-will-be, those that get to see them, will.

I am on instagram, but can't work out for the life of me why! I think I'll actually close it down, I don't get off on chasing likes, and as far as I can see, that's all it's about... Same goes for my Flickr, I rarely update it, I don't post to any groups and I don't use it as a free image hosting facility, so I really don't know why I have it... o_O

Thank you! :)
I mostly didn’t like my (other) results as well. This was one of the last pictures I took during that show. Almost got dissapointed that I did not manage to take any usable photo at all...
