A colourful umbrella in from a lakeside

Nikon D850 with 24-120/4 lens

(As I see the two posts, posted while I was uploading the picture: this is not stitched, just cropped ;) )

I would be tempted to flip it horizontally so it is roughly in colour order of the rainbow but that is my wonky brain working :) lovely and vibrant

There is something really quite mesmerising about this image.

Thanks! I think there might be a couple of different narratives lurking in that photo.

My reference to Sugimoto, for those not familiar with his work,... a few decades ago he made a series of photographs in empty 1920s/1930s era movie theaters where he'd open the shutter at the beginning of a movie. And close the shutter at the end of the movie. The idea was he could capture an entire movie in a single still photo. That's not what I was trying to achieve here, though it had a similar effect in the end. :)

I am familiar with Sugimoto's work but will admit to not having appreciated his project on theatres. Now you have opened that box of curiosities... I have some reading to do.... but it still remains, there is something about your image that holds you there. Nicely done.

Another beautiful instrument made obsolete by the smartphone.
With only slight improvements they are still being made in Riverton, Wyoming, not bad for an instrument first sold in 1896. A veritable swiss army knife of surveying instruments. Serves as transit, mirror compass, theodolite and even a couple of other instruments. And it keeps right on working when the batteries in modern instruments are begging to be recharged.

There was a time when any engineer, geologist or geophysicist would not be found in the field without one of these on his belt or in a pocket. Not so today.

That is gorgeous. Look at the colour contrast! That is some stitching skills! how many frames? do they not have that weird blue light in there? I try to take pics in our aquariums and they have a weird blue light that ruins the images.
Thanks! Two photos with iPhone 8plus. The blue light background helps, sure enough. And it was a gorgeous sunny day that I guess helped too.

I'm starting to make the trek down to my office, where I haven't really been in a couple of years, and one great thing about where we are is the number of Canada Geese that like to be around in the winter. They cross the street, stopping traffic, like no one's business, and there's always at least one with their neck out chasing one or more. They're funny birds :).

Yep, geese are definitely characters! I enjoy watching the ones on the lake here, and there have been a few times when indeed they've stopped traffic on our road as they casually stroll across the street to the other side. I'll be in here doing something and hear a lot of honking all of a sudden, and since I can tell the difference now between the "OK, Gang, Let's GO!" honking just prior to their taking off, and the beginnings of a squabble, I usually look to see who's trying to attack who. They're delightful, but a lot of people don't like them because of the messes they make on our walking path. Thankfully they don't get on the boardwalk so it stays pretty clean, but the walking path -- especially in spring and summer -- whew!!
