Many decades ago I was a trumpet player in the FSU Marching Chiefs. Great seeing them march by in the parade before yesterday's Bowl game.

All that talk of hummingbirds had me dig into the archive, so this goes back to 2021 (this past season was so terribly dry that gardens really struggled). One thing I forgot to mention with bursts--usually most modern cameras have 2 max burst rates, a slower rate with mechanical shutter, and a higher burst rate that is e-shutter. The challenge with older e-shutter is that you can get the "rolling shutter" look, where fast moving bits will look warped or out of place, but you get quite different results depending on the shutter speed. At 1/1200s, this hummingbird's wings would have looked really weird, but 1/2000 with e-shutter looks acceptable. You can see that even at 1/2000s, the wings aren't quite frozen yet. Speedy little buggers! I believe the global shutter is supposed to solve that look, but I haven't looked into it much.

As much as I love Indian Paintbrush those flowers have always proven rather difficult for me to photograph.
This is my only attempt using the 4x5. At today's prices it would work out to about $15 every time I pressed the shutter so you can see why.

BTW I have no idea if these lovely flowers have been forced to change their names by the woke crowd, nor do I care. To me they will always be Indian Paintbrush.

Guessing this was the Schneider Xenar lens and going by the ƒ-16 @1/8sec exposure, the bellows must have been extended to at least double that lenses nominal 127mm focal length.

On our pier, the posts are all capped with white rubbery/plastic protectors, most of which have held up pretty well through the years and various weather conditions. One was damaged a month or so ago and hasn't yet been replaced. All the other post caps are fine.....so of course, which one does Alfred choose to stand on? LOL! (Probably gave him better, more secure footing.)

Regally posing for me:
