Nope -- a bit early yet for those -- actually, I am not sure what these are! They certainly are hardy, as I bought the bouquet in which they were included quite a while ago -- maybe just over two weeks -- and they're still hanging in there whereas the other flowers in the bunch all went off to the trash after about a week and a half. I liked the contrast of the bright blue vase and the yellow flowers and the other day had tried to get a photo, tried various strategies with lighting, including high-key, but nothing was working to my satisfaction.
Today I decided to try again since we finally had sunshine after several days of cloudiness and I could take advantage of the natural lighting to take a couple of different approaches to this. Shot in "Studio B" with the subject positioned on the dresser and natural light pouring in through the bedroom window, with the interesting bokeh created by the bushes under my window and the parking lot just beyond. That bit of yellow is the flowers reflecting in the window, which I thought was kind of cool, too. I had also decided to use the 85mm f/1.8 lens instead of my macro lens this time, and I'm glad that I did.
"Studio B," AKA my master bedroom, is where I have nice large windows that let in lots of natural light and can position and arrange my subjects on top of my dresser (unlike many dressers, I do not have a mirror attached to mine, so it fits nicely under my windows). ("Studio A" is the living room where the dining table plays host to most of my macro projects and where I mostly have to use some combination of the external continuous light sources I have). Occasionally I press "Studio C" into service, too -- AKA my kitchen, another source of lots of nice natural light. When you have limited space, it's necessary to improvise from time to time in order to try and get interesting images!
