Mine for the day. I've posted several versions of this subject before. Power plant in Providence, Rhode Island. It's been a challenge to get a decent composition. Looked at straight on, the power lines on the right cut across the middle of the stacks. Shooting a bit to the left places them as seen here--filling up the empty space in the upper right of the composition.

The biggest problem for me has been the stacks. If the camera is tilted up at all--which it needs to be to capture them as well as the water--then perspective distortion makes them looked curved rather than straight (or else "falling" to the right) and also makes everything look like it is falling backwards. I've tried to fix this in Lightroom with some success, but haven't been happy regardless of how I adjusted the sliders.

Got a 24mm tilt-shift lens to fix this (both for this subject and others). Haven't played with the tilt yet, but the shift is pretty amazing. I leveled the tripod head to shoot the subject. The tops of the stacks were cut off, even with a 24mm lens. Then shifted up and was able to dramatically change the composition while keeping perspective under control. Not sure I'm satisfied with the clouds/light--will need to go back under different weather conditions. But I'm liking the composition better than any other time I have shot this.

Nice! Brings back memories of walking through Providence. What T/S lens did you get?

I think that's one of my favorite locations . Nice job tinting it , too . Did you have a chance to go under the Manhattan Bridge and explore around a bit to the north of the bridge?

Many thanks for the feedback. Tried to, but unfortunately (for me) they are doing a lot of redevelopment work at and around the foot of the bridge that severely limited access and reduced the number of attractive viewpoints. Next time...

Here's another hackneyed viewpoint from just south of the bridge. Think the filter on the 20mm lens was a bit finger-greasy hence the smeared starbursts. 20 second exposure.

Comments always appreciated.

Took a trip to Newcastle to see my folks on Tuesday from Glasgow. Grabbed a few snow shots.

....almost ;)
Showoff! The more I use my X100S, the more I've fallen in love with the X100 series philosophy. I'll probably skip the T, though some of the refinement is very nice, and pick up whatever replaces it. I'm definitely hooked.

Alex, I see you have a soft release on your camera. Does it make much of a difference? Curious as notice I am jabbing my shutter button and it causes me to get movement frequently. Thought one of these might help.
I've definitely noticed a difference. I initially bought it because it looked cool, but I noticed right off the bat that it helped me achieve a much smoother shutter release. I didn't expect much going into it, other than aesthetic improvements to my camera, but since using it on my X100S I've purchased one for my X-E1 as well. I'm a believer.

Lol. I went from the X100 to the T and missed the S. If I'd have had the S I'd have skipped the T too.

The soft release is definitely a good addition. I kept losing them off of my X100 though for some reason but the one on my XE1 has stayed put nicely.

more manhattan

Should have put this in the recent sunset weekly contest....still wouldn't have won though. Comments always appreciated.
