Tanagra (not really)
My son got this for Christmas, and with the miracle of the internet, I was able to teach myself how to solve it in 7 steps. It seems impossible at first, but it can be learned and done quickly after getting the steps down. When I was his age, there was no such help, so I never figured it out. I guess I just checked off a childhood goal I forgot all about!

Also, taken with my new-to-me 60mm macro. A new thing to learn.

I don’t know how folks figure it out without a guide. I could get maybe a side or two, but then it gets all messed up again trying to do the other sides. Maybe even just knowing that you have to solve it in layers would have been helpful, but the final step seems like something I would have never figured out on my own.

You're either wired for it or not. I’m not. I know people who solved it very quickly, back in the day, before Internet and YouTube.

my son learned the algorithms when he was probably 9 or 10 and can solve any cube put in front of him.

my brother had a book in the 80s with solutions and he could also solve them way back when.

I actually never owned one, and I would only get to mess with one at a friend‘s house occasionally. There were too many other things going on to commit much time to the cube. I guess I’m just making up for lost time!

When these things came out , I was teaching in an elementary school . There were kids , 9 or 10 years old, who could solve it in no time . I , however , never could . I was tempted to buy one and dissect it to find how all the internal joinery worked , but never did .

Auckland, 2009, Waitangi Day!

Auckland from my Hotel Room by Jason Hindle, on Flickr

Taken with an E-510 and 14-42 kit lens. From my description at the time: I had to do a whole lot of unpacking to get this single picture of a firework display from my hotel room! Shot using a hardback copy of Terry Pratchett's Nation as a makeshift tripod (unpacking and setting up the Manfroto version wasn't an option).

Could also be a Wood Duck; they look very similar and are more prevalent in North America and other areas.
Check it here:
They are related though.
