LOL.

Well, this is a different country with different conditions. If the man owned a Tesla, he could give you the donkey. And you could replace the cruel chain with a soft plush band.

Donkeys have a very sensitive scalp, you know this from petting. A static load of the chain links can be ignored. It of course would be cruel to pull the chain jerkily. Why should the man ever do this?

Don't degrade the man, he is a cruel animal abuser just in your mind. Personally, I also rode a donkey once, and I also felt sorry because I thought the donkey was suffering. Here, too, it comes down to the synchronization of one's own movement with the animal. These people learn this already in childhood, and they have a much closer and more knowledgeable relationship with their animals than you do when you stroll through the zoo with flowers in your belly.

In these countries, for thousands of years, the animals are still loaded with completely different burdens. When it gets too heavy, these smart dear animals stop for self-protection. They are always loaded in such a way that they do not suffer any damage so that they live as long as possible.

If you observe donkey riders closely and for a longer time, you will notice that the reins are never actually used. The animal is directed by leg movement, if the smart animal does not know the way anyway. And aggressive acceleration and sharp braking are also more familiar in car driving culture.
One should know this before making ignorant judgments.

But there are always people who need to reinforce problematic, dark aspects in order to reconcile them with their own torn dark worldview.
A last sentence: I love donkeys, they are smart and good-natured. If someone tortures them, I detest that. But in this case, you can calmly return to reality and say goodbye to your dystrophic fantasies.

I have been a horse person for over 20 years. I know about riding, and am not an ignorant animal rights activist. A chain halter is just cruel and abusive, no matter how you try to excuse it. The area around the nose is just as sensitive as the crown. A rope halter would surely be enough.
Just because animals have been treated in certain ways for thousands of years doesn't mean it isn't cruel.

I apologize to everyone for posting on this subject. This is not the appropriate place for this discussion.

People like you narrow the discourse by aggressive opinion making in narrowed cultural narrow-mindedness with the usual arguments of monopolistic interpretive art. I am withdrawing here. I had already picked out more pictures for the next few days that can convey the diversity and beauty of the world. But this is the wrong forum here. Farewell!

My three times through I've always tried to go by Red Mountain in the early morning light. Guess I was so focused on finding spots to photo Red Mountain I ignored the lake altogether.
When there’s so much to see, I’m sure it’s easy to miss, especially if there are trees between you and the water. I recall a few of these man made ponds/lakes are above road grade, too, so you might miss it entirely if you are heading in a particular direction. It won’t be visible until it’s behind you!

I have been absent the last week on MR due to work and other commitments🙂
Hope you all are feeling well?😊

Anyhow, here is a shot from a harbour in Dubrovnik in September 2012.
I thought the effect would be cool to take through the stone wall, but I don't know?🙂

We stopped there because on north side there was a nice little road to pull off on, affording the view that I took in the picture probably would have missed it also otherwise Indeed such a beautiful drive, scenery, mining history stops we even were stuck near the top of the divide before descending to Silverton on 550 about lunch when they were doing some serious digging of road cut on right side. So we enjoyed scenery, sat in car and ate lunch there

Ooh, do share some shots please if you still have them :)

Cheers :)

I'll have to rummage around in my archives -- I think it was either in 2021 or 2022 that I did a few shots of bubbly lemons.... probably they are in one of the POTD threads, too, for the relevant year. Easier to search my archives, though! LOL!

Ah, found it! Or at least one image..... If I recall correctly there were a lot of images which didn't come out well or to my satisfaction and I probably only shared and kept one or two anyway. It was in October 2021. I actually still have the bottle of the remaining soda water -- I daresay it's gone quite flat by now! Should've thrown it out a long time ago.

I remember now that one suspends the fruit -- lemon, strawberry, orange slice, whatever -- in the water using a skewer or something rather than dropping it wholly into the water.
