Are they penguin bats or have you rotated the image? :)

Sorry, fixing it. Scan from an old slide. (Pentax ME Super, Kodachrome, Tokina 135mm, if memory serves me right)

Come to think of iit, it was shot in the southern hemisphere... Perhaps my camera sensed it was upside down?

OK, I am being naughty with 2 in a day but wanted to post this one.

The hotel we are staying in - Epic Sana Algarve - has lots of scrubland and generally untouched habitat which they protect within their boundary. I think this is a great thing. If development must happen, then carve some ground and protect it. Anyway, 2 young Kestrels were found injured and the hotel called in the RIAS charity to help them.

We were honoured a couple of evenings ago to see the birds released back into the wild now their rehabilitation has been deemed successful. Of course there were lots of photo opportunities and here is a lovely shot of one of the birds. Unfortunately, as you know, birds of prey are typically pretty quick so I got limited pictures before they were off.

Lovely natural looking post processing.

Thanks Kenoh! I've been working hard over the years to attempt to perfect my touchups without looking obviously retouched. I rarely use any plugins now. It's all pretty much frequency separation and lots of layering for various parts of the photos to get them to the level I want. I frequent 500px and there are some amazing portrait photographers on there that keep me inspired to tune my craft.

Thanks again!

Cool grill. Love the chrome and the skull is pretty sick. Black CA plates are coming back...Yippeeeee. Well, I'm in JawJa but if I was still living in CA I'd jump on 'em.

Another perk of that California life, I suppose. too bad I live in Nevada, lol. Saw this at last years viva las vegas car show.

Great catch. I love the sharpness of the eyes. The tree on the left gets too much attention, perhaps you can cut some of it.

Thanks oblomow. Unfortunately, this is already a tight crop...too tight for my liking but out a lot of shots taken that day, this was the only one where I was able to clearly capture his grey/blue eyes. I do agree that the foreground on the left is kinda choppy.

Wow! What a perfectly timed capture, Peter! My imagination sees a bird having a red dust dirt-bath, thanks to the symmetry of the fireworks and the shape they create as a whole. It's really lovely to look at.

Thanks very much Alex.

I was quite excited about this opportunity as this is only the second time that I know of that they've done fireworks in the harbour area and I missed it last year. Traditionally, it's done east of the harbour with no off-shore vantage point unless you have a boat and want to try long exposures from a boat.

Toronto has a harbour that is protected by a series of islands which is the reason people settled here in the first place. The islands, interconnected with each other, are accessible only by ferry service. The islands boast beautiful parklands with a view of the city skyline…a wonderful place to see and photograph fireworks with the city as a backdrop.

Funny, it was a really crappy day with lots of rain and dense fog all day and I wasn't holding out much hope for a good view (I couldn't even see the city across the harbour) then 10 minutes before scheduled start at 11:00, the fog thinned-out...not perfect but still a great and welcome sight.
