Went to Loch Lomond Shores today to take a picture of these Pilings. I keep seeing images of decaying pilings and I like them. Failed miserably to recreate the thing I like. The weather meant the distant shore was blurry as hell...

Will have to go back and try again some time soon. In the meantime, one of my lame attempts for your entertainment.

I hate being at a location with the wrong lighting/weather. Especially if it's not local.

Well done! great that you are discovered on there!
Thanks. I've started joining a few more groups to widen the net.

What benefits do you see as a Pro member? Is it just reporting?

Really like the effect the UWA gives in this one
[doublepost=1469993947][/doublepost]Not the reporting, dont care about that. It was not having the uploads throttled which i went for. Dont think i will renew it.

You know Ken! What I think he meant was he had a particular image in mind which the conditions didn't reflect.
But I agree it's still a good picture.

Ha ha ha... Yeah guilty as charged but it is still not what I envisioned.

Also on top of flat light, a troop of 20-30 European college age tourists arrived as I was taking the shots. Tourists who insisted in standing in a huddle and right in front of my camera! They were taking selfies of themselves and just being a mass of people! It was however funny to observe them and how different they are to British tour groups who all seem to split into their little cliques and spread out.

These guys, huddle so the ones in the centre kept warm and the outer ones gave shelter or something... like penguins...

I remember shooting at a National trust property once (can't remember the name right now). I was trying to get a picture of the front of the impressive building without people.
There was a shuttle bus from the car park to the end of the drive. Anyway I was waiting for the last person to go in or round the back, before the first person of the second coach made it down the drive.
Made it in the end!

Thanks Hugh, it just doesnt feel like a "yes! got it!" moment you know.

It doesnt look dreamy, I got rain on my ND filter so took forever to clean up the mungy mess I made by trying to clean it in the field - big mistake! and in actual fact, I should have used a longer lens to get the effect I needed but didnt have an ND for that lens. SO overall feeling a bit grumpy at myself...

Thank you for your support though. Wasnt a total wash out and I need to wake up. It is only 30 minutes form the house so not like I can't nip back when I get an hour or so to kill.

It makes me laugh, you stand in the street, even in London, and folks stop and let you take a picture every time you raise your camera. Here though, I am there in full on Ansel Adams load out - tripod setup, bag, lens release cable, stood in a weird pose trying to get the angle - the full monty... and they stand in front of me... oh yeah and by in front of me, I mean I was at the edge of the foot path, THEY were on the ROCKS in front of me! WTH!?

Regarding filters I'm lucky that both my 24-70 and 70-200 use a 70 mm thread so I can double up.
I'd love some filters for my 14-24 mm but due to its construction, I'd need one of those large (expensive) adaptors Lea make. Not that I'm adverse to spending money, just it's something else to carry. I have enough hard choices to make with which gear to carry.

A closeup of the yellow begonia.

Superb clarity, I initially thought the bright areas were burnt out - but on a second look the detail is in there. Image sums up the british weather!!

Great use of shallow DoF - nice capture

Thanks, light wasn't great in the evening so as it progressed the lenses got faster and shorter!!!

(300 f4 to 200 f2.8, then 135 f2 - finshed up using my 24-70 f2.8 at the short end)

I hear you. I bought a cheap Cokin P mount off Amazon then use the expensive glass in it for graduated filters but it is too much of a ball ache to cary it so it tends to stay at home in the "just in case" box....
