Both those turtles are a couple of years old, I think. Babies are tiny, like half dollar sized. At least the ones that I see on my walks. Was surprised to see what I assume is a mother turtle and her offspring swimming by my deck yesterday afternoon, as often I only see one turtle out there:

I don't think turtles stay with their mothers at all. Sea turtles in particular leave as soon as they lay their eggs, and I think it is similar for other varieties of turtles to do the same.Ah, thanks, Molly! I was just going by the size difference in the two turtles......the smaller one may well not be a baby any more, but a juvie (adolescent) who is still with his mother? I don't know that much about the life of turtles! I have seen one the size of that larger one around here for some time, including last summer, so yes, that one is definitely older.
I'd love to see some baby turtles around here but so far that hasn't happened! I do remember seeing them during summers spent at my grandparents' summer cottage on a lake in Pennsylvania, but that was many, many years ago.
It’s a nice shot in any month!
usually I call people out, but that was clix!
