Watching Stage 9 of Tour de France today. Killing me that didn't go to Switzerland this year as July is typically when I would go. While yesterday was within a mile of where daughter lives, she walked to the route. Today the course was area of typical day outings. Unique to see the vineyards along Lake Geneva (Lac Leman to the rest of the world) that we have hiked and the mountainous areas where her husband grew up and his parents still live in the chalet. Photo below is from ski lift at Les Diablerets (Glacier 3000) looking down on the road where the race was today. Unfortunately, prior race routes, if they dipped into Switzerland were not as close to where I was.

I have been watching "The Tour" every year since 2008 when I got into cycling, at a modest level.

So a modest cyclists does what, 20 miles a day? :p
20 miles is a nice warm-up. :D
Sadly I haven't been cycling since my accident and having to wait a year for the surgery due to COVID monopolizing beds and elective surgery cancelled. Was 15 miles in when going too fast to negotiate a 90 degree turn and did the asphalt slide as about 25MPH. Rather than repeat the 15 miles back along a trail, re-routed 6 miles along street. Turns out I had a fractured clavicle (healed with a sling - no surgery required) but 2 miles from home, my thigh blew up with a grapefruit size hematoma (Morell-Levette lesion) that I had to live with for over a year before surgery.

In my college years, I took my mountain bike down an old trail. Was cruising along and then right in front of me came a gully I couldn’t navigate. I knew a crash was eminent, and I went over the handlebars and took the bull grip in the ribs on the way over. I laid there awhile, figuring I broke something. Fortunately, the resiliency of youth kicked in, and I was good to head back. Down side was I tacoed the front rim. I had to release the front break and limp the poor thing back home on a wobbly tire. I learned a few things that day!

Love it - I worked on the F-22 Mission Systems. Great plane, too expensive to maintain and upgrade.
Nice! We used to live near Marietta and saw the F-22s flying all the time along with a F-16 chase plane. I knew a couple of people who worked at the plant. The general consensus I heard was that the F-16 could keep up with the F-22 but only as long as the F-22 pilot wanted them too :)

lol - very true. I went to Marietta a number of times, had a lot of friends at Lockheed. It's the only plane I have S/W I wrote still flying on it.

Thats about right, bought this bike in Tacoma while working there. I rode just about every afternoon from Puyallup out towards Mt. Rainier on a trail that followed the Carbon River. About 20 miles each way.

Compared to the pros on the tour I was just a beginner. I can not believe their stamina after riding 100+ miles. The longest ride I did was a little over 60 miles, it was all I could do to make back to my truck at the end. Of course I stopped half way and had lunch too.

Is that a good or a bad thing?

Reminds me of this joke:

My grandad was a WWII veteran. In just one day during the Battle of Britain, he destroyed 8 German aircraft, killing 32 Nazi aviators.

Easily the worst mechanic Luftwaffe ever had.
