This was the picture day before the surgery that I lived with for a year, but essentially unchanged from day one. Was lucky as three compartments in thigh and if had been in one of them would have been emergency surgery as it would compress blood vessels and nerves in the compartment. This was the searing of the two subcutaneous layers (handlebar impact between me and ground causing tear) that the year delay actually complicated the surgery as it began creating its own compartment and crystalizing. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET! I didn't think my head was involved until the next day when looking at the helmet. Not only were there scrape marks, but impact indents of the asphalt texture.20 miles is a nice warm-up.
Sadly I haven't been cycling since my accident and having to wait a year for the surgery due to COVID monopolizing beds and elective surgery cancelled. Was 15 miles in when going too fast to negotiate a 90 degree turn and did the asphalt slide as about 25MPH. Rather than repeat the 15 miles back along a trail, re-routed 6 miles along street. Turns out I had a fractured clavicle (healed with a sling - no surgery required) but 2 miles from home, my thigh blew up with a grapefruit size hematoma (Morell-Levette lesion) that I had to live with for over a year before surgery.
