Cottonwoods are good to drop leaves 365 days a year. They like to hold on to a few in winter just to keep the mess going.Cottonwood turnleafs. It's mid August, this tree sits right along a river bank. There is no excuse for this midsummer display of false colors.

Since the summers are so short in the interior of Alaska, cottonwood trees grow extremely fast. The seeds drop all over my house's lawn, and by the next spring new trees pop out of the ground. My wife and I keep then at bay with the lawn mower.Yep not to mention spring pollen attacks and then the 'snow' storm of the fluff for which the trees are named.
