I was on vacation last week attending my step-daughter's wedding in New Jersey. I did manage to sneak away to New York to visit B&H Photo...I took this shot from my truck while stuck in traffic.

I think the photo of the model is good, but find your backdrop a little cluttered. Maybe select a different location, or put a bit of space between your subject and the backdrop so you can blur it with a low f number.

Well it's another day here (sort of). I liked the lighting in this one. Originally I was going to tight crop it (and to me the sharpness would have held up), but I preferred it with the green empty space. Whats your take?

Thanks! The location changed on me at the very last second. I wish that I had a tad bit longer to plan for it. I tend to strike out when curve balls are thrown my way.

This statue sits on the East Ridge which is part of the Continental Divide in Butte, MT (elevation 8500 feet).

If yours didn't win, the winning shots must be amazing! Congrats on getting as far as you did. Your owl shots are some of the best I've seen.

Congratulations Peter. You deserved to be in that short list with your awesome owl shots. It looks like the level of competence was pretty high in the competition so you was certainly in good company. You must be pretty chuffed with that and rightly so.

I'm glad you got shortlisted - just a shame you didn't get further - yours were right up there with the best of them. There are some superb shots in that shortlist, but there's some that I'm very surprised at too. One or two horrifically over-HDR'd pics, some with clearly skewed horizon lines (what does it take to just level out in PP?), and one or two which I would have just called average holiday snaps.

There was one in particular which caught my eye, as it was so similar to a pic I posted on here a while back - clearly the Niagara Ferris Wheel is made by the same company as the Brighton Wheel...

Thanks for the kind support guys. This was the first time I've entered a photo contest and was pleased to reach the shortlist.

Now I've got a new goal and motivation for next year.

Shop assistant in The Gap had a pretty unique look. He commented on my camera looking cool (Fuji X100) so I took a quick snap of him. Horrible light in there and I forgot I had it on spot metering. Nevertheless I liked how he looked.
