Which just goes to show its not always about the equipment.

Lots of wildlife here in SW Florida- wish I had Cheese&Apple's long lenses (and not forgetting his skill in using them)....

The thing about this lens is that previously I had a (inexpensive and cheap, and perhaps downright nasty) Sigma 70-300 lens, and I was wondering why producing shots with inspiring color was so damnably difficult, why ISO 1600 was something to be avoided, and so on.

This lens-- which I imported for a song from ebay Japan-- instantly elevated my (personal estimation of my own) photography from the odd interesting snapshot to ****ing incredible. Now, I'm still learning, but the ability to produce what I think are flashes of brilliance on a semi regular basis prior to spending hours in Aperture should serve me well.

Lesson learned: if your lenses aren't pro grade, stop and think before upgrading your body.

Sorry, another sunset. Comments always appreciated.

That is a nice sunset shot. If you don't mind how did you get that shot, did you bracket the exposure, use exposure compensation, or is it in the post process? I've tried capturing those colors in my sunset shots and they always wash out whether I use spot meter, average meter or evaluative metering.

Thanks georgeinnj, Mother Nature helps here but no real mystery or mastery involved on my part: I tend to find I get better colour saturation/richness if I underexpose the shot - perhaps by a full stop or so from the camera evaluative metered value. Using the 6D, increasing exposure a bit in selected areas in post is not a problem given the very good low noise levels. I shoot RAW and sometimes, not here, I select a cloudy white balance in post to further warm the scene. I do all my post-work in Capture One.

This particular photo was with the 24-105mm f4 L lens at 24mm, 0.5s exposure at iso100 f11. Single shot with 1-stop grad ND filter (helps with cloud moodiness but could easily be added in post) - touch of contrast added in post.

Hope this helps - there may be better ways of doing this but I've found it works for me.

One last high performance vintage vehicle for the month .

This truck and the last one I posted are off the street next to an apparently operating store . Think it sells rusted stuff you can put in your front yard to piss off the neighbors .The whole place is surrounded by oxidized ephemera .

5D2 , 24-105@55 , f8@1/60 , ISO 100 . B&W in Silver Efex using High Structure , red filter , Kodak Plus X 125 , light sepia toning settings

Had a go at a pano the other day, but I found that Hugin will not work in El Capitan, and had to fudge it together with photomerge in Photoshop...

Could be….seemed to be a (rusty) sign in the window saying they ship internationally . I saw some stuff that was interesting , and could have reduced my property tax assessment considerably , but , unfortunately none of it would fit in my carryon .

OK. I was testing out a new lens at the National Zoo DC the other day.

Camera is a Nikon D7000, lens is an Nikon AF 300mm f4.View attachment 638225

I think this lens is a keeper!

f/5, ISO 400, 1/320 s

Great lens choice jerwin. I sold my 300 f/2.8 and bought the 300 f/4. I put money in my pocket and took a lot of weight out of my camera bag without any perceptible loss of image quality. Good stuff...love the prime lenses.

Hugh, I still use Hugin on El C -but what I've found is that you need to clear the batch processor queue. To do this choose File-Run Batch Processor in Hugin then when the sub window appears, clear the queue.

A change of colour for today's sunset. Comments always appreciated.

Thank you, I'll give it a go :)

Cheers :)

Should have added that you need to clear the batch queue before closing Hugin each time. If you can't get Hugin to launch, find ptbatchergui and run that to clear the queue. Also worth running Hugin with the 'advanced' interface or at least switching to that interface before exiting the app. Good luck.

Thanks for the information on the shot. I tried under exposing some sunset shots last night and I did get stronger colors. I did have to go 2 stops under in order to get the color saturation I was seeing with my eyeball. I'll play around with the meter type and exposure compensation to see what works best. Thanks again.

Another winner. I prefer the ones earlier in the week, but its probably because of the colours. Still a great shot though.

Cheers AFB - I prefer the other ones myself I got a couple of these "blue hour" shots for the sake of something different, almost a duo-tone.
