Maybe of interest to historical fans, this Catalina flew over our house the other day. Unfortunately I took too long getting the camera and big lens set up and the only shot I got was a stern view as it flew away.

Nice. As a kid I actually got to fly as a passenger in a PBY. My father was stationed at Elemndorf AFB, Anchorage AK and we were returning to a lower 48 assignment. Great fun in Alaska except for that dang 64' earthquake. Ever seen the ground rolling like waves in the ocean? It's like something out of a syfy movie. Cheers

Made me think of Air Commodore Birchall, nicknamed the Saviour of Ceylon for having given advance notice of the impending attack during World War II. His Catalina was shot down on that mission and he spent the remainder of the war in Japanese POW camps before being liberated at the end of the war.

Remarkable man.

Air Commodore Birchall was a guest speaker a few times during my studies at Royal Military College and it was an honour and inspiration to have heard him speak.

Cheers

Crash
April 2017

The wet and windy weather today reminded me of a trip to Port Logan back in April where I came away with this photo. Thankfully, I avoided a soaking - although the camera came close at one point!

Here is a picture of my youngest having a quiet moment before leaving to go to her dance show on Friday night. So proud of her! Just wish her tights werent cutting in so much at her waistline. Maybe a bit of brush work can get rid of that at some point. Anyway, hope it makes you smile.

Looks like she has a lot on her mind! Nicely done.
