Clover mite #2.

The pic I posted yesterday was from overhead (though not directly overhead) which helped me create a decent depth of field. Many of the shots I took were attempts at capturing the clover mites head on (i.e. lowering the tripod so I was shooting them in profile rather than looking down on them). This meant that the DOF was extremely narrow--as this pic illustrates. It's the bane of macro photography. This was taken at f/16--which for non-macro photography would result in sharpness front-to-back in a landscape scene (with diffraction limiting the sharpness at this aperture). For macro photography, f/16 can look like f/1.4 in non-macro photography regarding DOF, depending on composition (specifically orientation of the sensor plane compared to the plane of elements in the image).

The D-Day Daks over Normandy flight of 20+ Dakotas with fighter escort flew right over our village on 5th June, on their way to recreate the first airborne assault in France, when 22,000 paras were dropped 75 years ago, but they were just too far away to get perfectly clear shots.

I hesitated to upload this, but if you think the quality is good enough I have lots more...

Cheers :)

Wish you could upload the sound! My Grandad was on a boat as these guys flew overhead 75 years ago. Brave soul.

I’m glad I was born after the war.

Found this video, shot from the opposite side of the river to me. They were in a better formation by then as well.

You might need to turn the sound right up.

Cheers :)

Clover Mite #3

Shot this subject again today but with a different lens. My usual macro lens is a Nikon 200mm f/4. AF doesn't work with my Z7. So tried it again with the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 macro. It's a worse lens optically, but AF works on my Z7 with it and doesn't with the 200mm. Broke my usual rule of only shooting macro on a tripod--because the little buggers move around so quickly I wanted to see what I could get handheld. f/11 and 1/250th sec. Obviously taken from directly overhead which mitigated some DOF issues.

Attended the 26th annual HONfest in the Hampden neighborhood of 'Balwmer' (aka Baltimore) earlier today. “Hon” is short for Honey and is a traditional term of endearment often used by working women in Baltimore and HONfest is an annual celebration in honor of these women. Just picture your waitress in a classic American diner in a working class neighborhood in the '50s and you get the picture. One thing is for sure, the cat-eye glasses, boas, leopard print clothing, and beehive hairdos definitely makes for some interesting people watching. :)
