Just had a look and I can see why you're thinking this -- the green part does look very similar, doesn't it? Apparently flowers don't appear for a while yet, so if we suddenly get blossoms mid-to-late summer we'll know! The fact that the green part of the plant is so tall already and just keeps growing and growing is a bit confusing, though......it could be a liatris but it seems too tall for that.
I should have clarified in my earlier posts that these things are in front of the building next to mine, not my building, and until these started sprouting up and taking over, the landscaping at this building has been just lovely. A former owner/resident, a true gardener at heart, spent quite a bit of time way back several years ago adding to the basic landscaping that had been provided. She would be so upset at seeing how these things have been steadily encroaching upon her lovely landscaping and thoughtful selection of plants and flowers!
