I am in a condominium apartment complex, and this is in front of the building next to mine. Earlier in the spring everything looked fine and then all of a sudden these things started shooting up and spreading at a rather surprising rate. We have a landscaping company which comes out every week to tend to the common areas, the lawns, the plantings....I would have thought that they would have done something about these long before they got to the size that they are now. I need to send this photo to the condo management company and presumably they will bring it to the attention of the landscape folks, although how anyone could fail to notice them is beyond me!

Nothing artistic or fancy here this time..... Are these things weeds? They just keep proliferating and growing and growing.... Some of them are taller than I am!! A quickie shot with the iPhone:

I have never seen such weeds! They look like lilies :)

By the way, I have no idea how to reply and still show a portion of the photo of the person I am relying to. How can I accomplish such thing?

Another neighbor and I just showed the president of our condo association the things, as he is sort of knowledgeable about plants and such, but even he was unsure of what these are. He did think that they looked vaguely familiar, though. The things have to be weeds, the rate at which they have proliferated and grown tall is just astonishing! They're smothering the Hostas and other plants. Anyway, now he's on the case, too.

He also told us that the board has asked for a quote from the landscaping company to redo much of the front of our building, which is really good news. A few years ago there was some major construction work done, where they had to dig out quite a bit and then they just filled that all in with dirt "in the meantime" in case there would be a need to get back in there again. Well, there never was that need and nothing has grown there, plus on the other side of the building it looks a little overgrown and "jungly" with weeds and such along with the plantings we DO want. So it was good news to hear that we will be getting some new landscaping done eventually! Mine is the first building one sees after the clubhouse when driving into the community so it would be nice to have the landscaping look attractive!

Someone else thought maybe they were lilies, but they've been growing too quickly and too tall to be lilies, and there are no flowers, no evidence of even any buds.

I think that now when we hit "reply" the other person's photo no longer shows up, but there is the possibility of clicking on the link: "View Attachment," with the relevant number. Makes sense, saves bandwidth and space.

I'm going to check on Molly's suggestion of this possibly being Liatris.....maybe that'll be the answer!
