We mostly get sparrows in our garden. They have had feeders for years, but the minute I open the door, they are off. Naturally skittish birds. Can't possibly see them taking to a speed light.
Are hummingbirds quite tame then?

I wouldn't say they are "tame," but they generally are rather tolerant. They can be a little skittish with noise and motion (opening the sliding door or raising the camera too quickly), but usually return to the feeder quickly. They usually don't seem bothered by the camera equipment and often hover nearby to check it out when I first set it up (the attached photo is from last year when one took up a perch on my sync wire, just above the shoot-through umbrella). The flash of the speedlights doesn't seem to bother them, although I try not overdo it -- it is their space, so I'll take a shot or two and then leave them be for a bit. Some can be more skittish than others -- I try to leave them be and let them get comfortable before proceeding.

This has finally prompted me to do the same with my 44-2 lens, so here's my first attempt...

Love this (sorry I'm a bit late)

I noticed mine gets a lot sharper stopped down, but you loose the bokeh effect..I think there could be a sweet spot (maybe around f4ish) but i defo need to experiment more...

Thanks :)
I've only taken a couple of shots, all at f/2, but at the moment there's a lack of decent subject until all the flowers / foliage develop more.
Yes, please experiment (as will I) and let's see some more of yours...

Cheers :)

For class I have been experimenting with shooting distorted panos using a 14mm lens. After I finished up the pano work I decided to run out the memory card shooting a star trail segment. I believe this was a stack of 24 images shot at the following: 14mm, 20 seconds, ISO 3200, f-4. The white balance is set to tungsten, the sky and background are lit by a quarter moon and the foreground outcropping is lit by a tungsten light source. The sRGB color space crushed colors a bit but I was just playing around with this one. :)

This is a meteor shower. I like it without ever being streamed
