Caught the light nicely here - very atmospheric.

We were going to go to the beach today at Troon but the weather looked too dodgy so we went to the Botanical Gardens in Glasgow instead. On the way home we popped into my wife's old uni - Glasgow and took some pictures of the cloisters.

Thought it didn't look like Troon! The uni is always better looking without the usual student infestation:)

Here's mine for today, comments always appreciated.

I think epic sums it up. I'd love to travel.
I checked your flickr page, you have some terrific photos there! Keep up the good work!
Beautiful.
I envy you! Is there a country that you haven't visited??
That's an amazing shot Melissa!

Thanks everyone! The photos I post are always from traveling, since that is when I actually have time to take out my camera. That, and right now I'm living in northern Germany where it rains most days so I am completely uninspired to take photos. I have only seen 0.1% of the world so far... Luckily I have a "job" (i.e., grad school) that takes me to cool places and I have no responsibilities (kids, mortgage), so I'm enjoying my freedom while I can!

Another section of the falls from yesterday's photo - showing the arch through which one section flows. Comments always appreciated.

I love this. I'm adding it to my list of places to travel :)

The rain of Northern Germany will prepare you for the western parts of the UK...

I would love to take some time and go explore the far east more. Only been to Singapore and it is beautiful. Maybe once the kids are older I will get a chance.

Enjoy it while you can Melizard, enjoy it to the absolute max!

There was some evidence of the usual inhabitants... Namely a litter bin over spilling with empty Cava bottles - no doubt post exam stress relief... But didnt post that one... Yet...

A marvelous balloon shot!

Another beautiful spot.

This is the shot I had in mind when I went to the Bristol hot air balloon festival a few years back. Sadly the dawn burn left it a little too late for this type of shot. It was already virtually light by the time the burners were lit.

Thanks everyone. I was lucky to get a good vantage point and while everyone was using their telephoto lenses I used my 14mm and was able to capture all of the balloons lit up at the same time. This picture will be shown on the local news tonight as the amazing pic of the day.

Photo of the Day May 2015

I tried water drops/splashes a while back with little success for my limited patience - well done on these MacRy, you must have the patience of a saint!

I too have limited patience and success with it :) Really hard trying to coordinate the drop and capture. I got interrupted by Mrs MacRy wanting to use the sink so these were the best I could manage in the short timeframe available to me.

Memorial Day visitor

I saw little Green Heron as soon as he perched on our fence, so I grabbed my camera, and luckily I almost had the perfect combination of lens and camera. I would have preferred D7000 for reach, but the D700 with 70-200 4.0 with 1.4 teleconverter was almost as good:

Congrats on the news spot.

Having the right lens/body combo is the Bain of my life. When you need a telephoto, you're set up for wide and vice versa.

I had my wife do the fruit dropping whilst I tried to get the shot. Not very successful. Next time I'll use speed lights (didn't have any at the time).

I've been meaning to try this again myself; perhaps a new thread to compare settings and results?

Cheers :)
