Waiting for a train

Not quite the more candid London Underground shots from MacRy (which I wouldn't have the confidence or ability to take) but comments always appreciated.

Looks like a winner to me!

I like the subject matter. It has nice textures and tones. In terms of framing the patch of green left in the top right corner is a bit distracting and I would like it better if it was cropped out to just the tree in that corner - the smaller one, not the Mother of Roots. The light in the tree leaves is too bright for me. The contrast difference between the foreground and background is too great. Reshooting or reprocessing it to tone down the bright areas and bring out more detail up there would probably make this the photo you are trying to make it into.

Fabulous area for a photo drive. The run in from the West late in the day to this point is thrilling no matter how many times you have been there. I like the composition you have in the photo. A lot of shots from this area cut in to the mountain alone and pass over it's place in the grander scene of the landscape. Nice capture.

If you are inclined to camping, try to make a week trip up to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and branch out into the surrounding area more. We camped at Iron Creek to the North a few years ago and we had a great time exploring and photographing. I was born in Ohio and lived several years on the East coast, but the Pacific NorthWest is my home.

Cheers Dale. I'll give it another go in a week or two.

Wherever I hang my hat...
The blackhouse village, on the west coast of Lewis. These were the traditional houses, for hundreds of years, built to survive the extremes of wind and weather. The houses in this tiny village were lived in until the 1970s; now it's a museum...

^^^ Very nice. Maybe the point & shoot captured the mood better, on this occasion, than a DSLR...

Lovely, ethereal atmosphere.

That's an amazing picture—as others have said, ethereal. Love it. It just goes to prove that it's the twelve inches behind the camera that matters.

Fantastic shot but I have to know, is this big rocks on the shoreline? or have you managed to pull a cheeky one and make small rocks look huge using a trick of perspective? I am trying to work it out.

???

Thanks for the comments guys, due to the lack of 'big impressive formations' on my doorstep I've been trying recently to make the small ones look big! :p While there may only be 3 or so impressive 'hot locations' within a 100km radius of me, there are literally thousands of interesting small rock formations waiting to be explored (...and even more half below the surface) The camera was placed low - planted right down on/in the sand (in a waterproof dive housing). While the camera doesn't go fully underwater in this situation, it reduces anxiety and you can make bolder shooting decisions to really get up close and capture a different miniature scene, without having to be worried about the waves. The simple, small, manoeuvrable body made it easy to recompose at an instant.

Another one (probably my favorite) from Latourell Falls, in the Columbia River Gorge, near Portland, OR.

Very nice!

That's loverly. And unlike most locations on here not that far away from me. I might pay it a visit one day.

Thanks AFB. This was my first visit but well worth it. A bit out of the way but very easily accessible - a beautiful location that I would imagine gives a lot of variety depending on the weather. A car park (£3) and small tearoom at the foot of the falls.

Walking to the local shop yesterday. This little sign caught my eye. Have to be honest and admit I don't know the significance of it but it caught my eye and I grabbed a shot.
